Default 996TT vs 928 DIY SC

Yesterday was a gorgeous day and some of the local Porsche owners (and a few from Toronto) got together. Some of us decided to go for a little drive afterwards. One of them was an ’01 996 TT, beautiful machine. Needless to say, when he punched it for the first time, I was expecting to be left in the dust, but it wasn’t so. I had to time it just right and be ready but managed to keep up right until the top end of the revs, this is when he started to pull away. But not by much. We did a few of these short bursts several times and the outcome was pretty much the same. It was fun as hell!

The driver of the 996 was, let’s say, more than surprised that an old 928 was able to stay with him.

By the way, the TT was not stock, pushing around 550hp. The air was dry, cool and this helped me A LOT.

Nice! I've been stalking a local one myself but he keeps avoiding me...

Not that I wouldn't trade my 928 for one if it was even money

BTDT, against a 2001 996TT AND a 2004 996GT at some event somewhere in NC, around June/July 2008...

I stayed right in their butt and agressively gaining on them. I swear if the road permitted I could have passed them. On a closed road course, they would be roadkill.

I remember running a stock '01 996 Tip on the freeway in my '87. We were neck & neck literally. I'm very impressed by this 23 year old car.

In 5spd form they are particularly good cars. I think the auto has big drivetrain losses associated with it. Over come that with a $7k to $10k rear turbo or S/C and smoke just about anything on the road today! I seem to remember hearing that on a DVD about 928's recently... hmmm... coincidence? I don't think so! LOL!

Imre,
I think I need to come by for a ride in your car to get me motivated on the '90.
