Default Belly Pan information Needed

1988 S4 w/ AT

Any one have photos or specs on all parts needed for belly pan replacement to stock specifications? I believe on dismantle for TB job that some parts where replaced and / or missing. After cleaning deer fur and reshaping want to know I am re-assembling correctly. Did a search, found lots of misc pieces and debates, so not looking for more to have or not haves.

Thanks,

Jon (TBF survivor)

There are actually 2 belly pans, the engine belly pan and the transmission belly pan. The factory engine belly pan is plastic and will crack the first time a field mouse hops up on it on its way to nap in the V of your block.

The transmission belly pans are raw aluminum but if you buy a new one now it'll be painted black, which is sort of disappointing 'cause it ain't 'stock':

PET has the info on the part #'s for the speed nuts, M6 screws, and M6 bolts you need to mount them both.

Rob nice pictures, it makes it easier to figure out.
My rear pan is also black and I believe original; and that the rear pans are all black.
I have never seen them any other color.
Interesting that you mention this, possibly the early S4 cars
The rear pan in not a cover for the transmission but it attaches to the rear of the front pan and covers the bell housing/ starter area and header pipes where they attach to the manifolds

Stan-

You're absolutely right- the rear pan misses the transmission by about 3 feet. Dunno what I was thinking....

Both my '90 and my '93 have bare aluminum rear belly pans. I bought the replacement because on the GT the front edge of the rear pan came undone at 55 mph and got a little bent up as it scraped the ground.... I was surprised to get a black replacement but maybe both raw and painted were used.

I'll get a comparison shot of both rear pans together for posterity.

Nope, nothing better to do. The two are identical except for the pattern of the 5 spotwelds that hold on the vertical dividers...

Jen is like, 'what the hell are those things on my dining room table?

I need to take some lessons from you guys and start bringing car parts into the house more often.

But seriously, my 87 S4 had a bare aluminum rear pan and so does my current GT.

Doesn't really matter unless you're trying to keep everything looking perfectly stock.

Most folks probably didn't that that "Pan, pan, pan" comment... What is your urgent situation?! LOL!

BTW, in my two owner (me being the second) S4 the rear pan (pan, pan) was always SILVER... It does not look like it had ever been black. There was no hint of black and when I got it the car had like 50k miles on it so I would think at the very least it should have still looked a little black if it had ever been that...

Well atleast a few are paying attention............
Anyway you should know that the Black rear pans that have been coated are worth about 600.00 more than the uncoated pans.
And if you have a black pan fitted your car will run about 45 degrees F cooler, and than makes it faster.

Rob thanks for posting the pictures of the speed pan, pan pan

...and if you polish the natural finish pans to a high sheen, they actually reflect the heat away from the bottom of the car. Wind chill causes substantial decreases in temperature resulting in, yes, a much faster car!
