I have been doing a lot of searching on Rennlist but I am still not clear if these MSDS headers do anything for my 1987 S4. Red Mcclintock highly recommended them to me when we chatted in the early 1990's but I am not seeing much recommendation from the list. Most people go the x-pipe and RMB route as far as I read so far. Some stated that the MSDS headers do not offer much over the OEM headers. If someone can chime in to recommend them with actual numbers, I very much would like to take advantage of this sale.

From the MSDS website:

"Our 928 Porsche headers showed an astonishing 23% horsepower gain... on a stock engine!!"

Not sure if they mean 16v or 32v engine though.

I thought I would bring this back to the top for the last day of the sale.

I've read some of the same posts and wonder the same thing. Anybody able to clear this up? Right now I'm thinking just to add an X-pipe and calling it good?

Anyone?

Why not both? Carl sells a bolt-on X-pipe for the headers. Its probably overkill for a stockish car, but there are some dyno numbers in his thread:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...er-x-pipe.html

Maybe he has some header runs with and without the matching x to see how much power comes from each upgrade.

I have MSDS headers on my '87, but it's down for engine resto right now. I might have it back up and running this weekend, but without being title, I won't be able to give any meaningful feedback on how the headers change the feel of the car.

Thanks. I'd like to do both if there is significant gain by adding headers to an X-pipe and RMB. If not, X-pipe/RMB will probably do as I don't plan on doing any more mods to the motor.

Andrew, Chuck, Et al,
Did any of y'all ever do any digging on this??
Chuck, like you, I'll probably do an X-pipe and call it done on the GTS, BUT, if there is more to be gained with the headers/X-pipe, I may go that route. I just dont want rattles, exhaust leaks, etc, if that's what it's going to produce.

Anyone w experience on Carl's headers/x-pipe?

I bought a set of the MSDS headers while they were on sale. I think they were $464 shipped. I got them uncoated because there is a Jet-Hot coatings place near me that will coat them with their "Extreme Sterling" coating for $300 even.

I have a polished stainless Motorsports X-crossover that I will be selling once I have the headers installed. I'll be using one of the stainless header x-pipes from Carl.
