I just checked the UK registry which says there are now 955 road licensed 928's in the UK versus 2,020 in 2002. That's a 53% drop in ten years! Brett's earlier post stated that the UK imported about 4,000 - so about 25% or the original production is still on the road.

The UK has 1016 registered separately under SORN, which means they are not licensed or insured. Some of these may come back as roadworthy, but how many is anyones guess? I suspect a lot of these cars will end up stripped or rotting in someones barn to be discovered in 50 years....
If the UK is any indication, and I don't see why it wouldn't be, there may not be as many 928's out there as we think. My 89 S4 is perfectly roadworthy but the PO almost sold it to a guy who wanted it as a parts car! I don't think he thought it worthwhile to invest money due to low resale values.
I imagine the lousy economy is preventing people from keeping these beauties roadworthy. And restoring them

I've heard the 2 manuals have been exported and don't know about the fate of the GTS autos....

Say what you will about reliability, complexity etc, all I know is that my purchase is about value. I have to spend my money on something so it might as well be to keep of a truly classic automobile road worthy. Besides someone has to keep Sean and Roger in business !!regardless of how much i spend it will always be a value to me. If I got a nickel foe every time my car turned someone's head it would have paid for itself!

As for Today volumes I think that out of the 23,000 928 imported to the US there is 1/3 of them still in any driveble condition. the rest were , crashed, burned, rotten in someones field/garage, doner for parts.
I have a feeling that for a lot of owners vanishing of 928 is a sad thing but isn't the equasion is: less cars = more value for those still left?
the thing is whenever the numbers got to critical amount where is the balance between driveble and non- driveble 928 will stay the same, becuase they (the germans) built such good quality cars, someone with deep pockets can buy a rotten 928 and restore it. How many of you saw really bad shape bodys of the 928? it really is a well built car.

Interesting to see the latest in the UK using the link in post #87. The numbers on the road continue to decline and are now equal to those registered as off the road [ Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN)]: http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/family/porsche_928

How Many left?? Add mine tho the list: 2 years ago I picked up an '83 928 EuroS 5-Speed for $3500!! (vin# WP0ZZZ92ZDS841138) The Used car dealer wanted $5900 for it but I used takling pionts from RL to get him down to $3500. When I pulled away from the dealer's lot, I don't know which was louder; the roar of the V-8, or me going YeeeHaaaaa!!! YES it needs work: the steering rack leaks a little. It needs new front shocks, the sunroof doesn't open and the rear wiper doesn't work, and the 30 year old paint is kind of ratty; BUT IT RUNS KILE 40 BEARS. I've been lead to believe that a car like mine is a desirable item to have. I know there's one '83 EuroS 5-speed in Phila, RL member 'EUROTRASH' has one. I think there are 2 in Texas and 2 in SoCal, and then mine, If there's more of them on the road , I'd like to know. When I think that I'd have to put up that much money as a down-payment to RENT(lease) some Rice Burner or Detroit PigIron that I can't work on myself, I'm TOTALLY SATISFIED with my Shark. I went to the Phila. Auto Show and was very disappointed. All the cars I like, I can't afford-All the cars I CAN afford I don'e like. I didn't see ANYTHING that I can afford that I'd trade my 30 year old Shark for. I also found an '84 928 US version with an auto-trans in a trans service shop in Phila a month or so back. The shop owner said "I'd LIKE to get 1000 for it", so the price may be lower-- cash talks real loud. Add that one to the list. Maybe someone in the Phila area will want to bring that one back from the dead.----See my post from 2-16-14 for more info on this car.

Last year, 526 928s has passed the mandatory technical check.
We need to pass this every two year, or to sell a car.
All in all, around 1000 928s are still on the road in France.
More than 1/5 is owned by members of the Porsche Club 928 de France.

There is about 10 cars here in Brazil. Almost impossible to check how many was legally imported and registered, because imported cars was titled only by the brand, not the type?!?!?!
Just for your information, one 78-79 is priced "as low as" US$ 40,000
http://lista.mercadolivre.com.br/opo...928-importacao (this is the Brazilian Ebay, divide the price by 2,4 and you will have the price in US Dollars)

Quite a busy thread. Yep, the accessories like the power windows and air are below par but the main car is a beaut. I loved my old VW Golfs for the great driveability but the door and window handles broke like pretzels. The krauts don't give these things much regard. In the deep past I was a mechanic and still putter around. -Done a few things to my '79 without a lot of trouble. I baby my cars now as I do my own aging body. I'll be dropping her down off the lift when I get back north and firing up the batmobile. It is still a rush when I hear it light up.
