Default X Pipe installed today!-Sprung an oil leak

Got most of my vacuum lines replaced...a few I couldn't get to. New plenum/intake silicone rubbers, new magnecor wires, O2 sensor, and the famed X-pipe.

One problem...I sprung an oil leak. Must've knocked something loose. Looks to be coming from in front of the throttle body on the passenger side somewhere. I took it out for a spin after we got it tightened up, hammered the hell out of it and she purred like a kitten. Great sound, but not too loud, and definitely more HP.

I plugged the air pump hose that was running into my factory cats. I assume that's cool? That's not doing something weird is it?

But where in the hell did this leak come from? Took out tee, but not organ pipes. When installing the x-pipe, I tightened up the pan bolts (except two behind the starter). Other than that I didn't deliberately mess with any oil fittings/hoses. Oil is pooling in front of the throttle body, leaks on the ground at front of motor/passenger side, misting up onto the plenum and plenum pipes, even spraying a bit on to the rear of the hood. Not pouring, but clearly it needs to be dealt with.

My these pipes sound great and the car freakin smokes down the road. The O2 sensor fixed my cold idle issue. Think I got most of my vacuum issues squared away. Got rid of the junk plug wires.

Any advice/comments on the job are appreciated.

Thanks fellas - B

Warning dont put the jackstands where they are placed in your picture, if you look carefully you can see the metal deforming this will damage the underside on the chassis.
This is not a jack or lift point the only place to put the jackstands is on the jack pads .
The oil leak is another matter, is is possible that oil has filled the air feed tube to the booster and if it was disconnected then it simply drained onto the engine

Thanks for the advice. I was a little spooky about the stands being there, but my hope was to get as solid as possible. For obvious reasons. I'll do some reseach on the air feed tube/booster.

Thanks,
B

I don't hink you should plug the airpump hose. You can just, for now, cut the airpump belt and remove the pump the next time you are in there.

Is the oil is blowing up onto the organ pipes and underside of hood?

Yep - top of the organ pipes have a mist. As does the air filter cover and rear of the hood. Can't see the source...

I can easily cut the airpump belt...

Oil does not "blow" when the car is sitting at idle or just actuating the throttle from under the hood. So I imagine it's getting blown in that direction while driving (fast).

I would look at the hoses coming from the oil filler neck.

OK- So there are two hoses at the bottom back of the oil filler. The hose closest to the filler body is split like my ex-wife's personality. I thought that was vacuum, and it was going to be too much of a PITA to mess with. It looked OK. Apparently at speed, these hoses see oil. Are they just bypass hoses or something? I wouldn't think they see any pressure to speak of or underneath the hood would have been a nightmare. It wasn't pretty, but not horrible.

Guess my PITA issue is still in play...

I think your talking about the oil breather hose. it needs to be replaced if its damaged. my S4 had two hoses coming from the filler neck. one of them that went to the valve cover was busted.

Yeah - gotta do something different. Can't figure out a better way than that Porken. I've been "getting" a lot of stuff for this car lately, tho. Need to pull in my horns a bit. Else I might be getting a divorce.

That hose is notorious.
It runs from the front right camcover to the base of the oil filler neck.
The material breaks-down and hose gets like putty, develops holes.
Mists oil under heavier acceleration.

Last part listed, #64. Illustration is joint with earlier 16V cars, and so the hose isn't properly pictured.
Costs about $35.

Has shape and end sizes that make it difficult to cobble-up some sort of replacement.

A place for a better illustration is the 928 Specialists diagrams on their Provent system for the 85/86.
