MAF out of spec?
Following MAF functional check of hotwire signal (FSM 03-23), spec range 1.5-5V
Static voltage reads 1.3V
Blowing as hard as I can on the MAF hotwire only yields 2.8V. Spec says it should read up to 5V.
Is this a clear case of a bad MAF?
Thanks!

the MAF needs to be checked on a calibrated air feed

there are a few tests that you can do but, finding out if the MAF is reading correctly takes a calibrated air feed and then the MAF has to be powered to register the readings.
So what is the problem??
What are you trying to fix?
Do you have another known good MAF to swap into place of the suspect unit??

I have a known good MAF out of the '84 Euro. The one in question is the original from the '87 S4.
I'll give the story tomorrow in another more comprehensive thread. I'm in the process of eliminating variables.

MAF Cleaner...then try it again???
I havent used it on my 928 as they have been replaced in the past, but i did our Expedition with 100K miles on it and it ran noticabley smoother.

Send it to Louie Ott, he has a calibrated flow jig and can test for you for nominal price.
That's the only way to test MAF calibration, the tolerances allowable in volts versus airflow are only a few %
