Intermittent Idle Problems - ISV Only 1-Year Old
Is this possible? I tried WD40 again after the old spray shot of it wore off. The ISV is only a year old this month.
Trying to solve my idle issues is driving me crazy. Everything else is functioning normally but the damned ICV.
Current Symptoms:
-Idle still low @ less than 600 RPM.
-After WD40 spray and driving to burn off the excess, car stalls 5 seconds after a hot start.
-Hesitation on lower RPM range under 2,000.
Do I have to replace this thing again????

It did the first time I tried. Tonight when I did it, the car just won't even want to idle after starting it up. When I come to a stop, it now stalls.

Have you testing the idle switch at the ECU pins?

When the WD40 first "worked", was the engine cold or warm? WHen it didn't work, was the engine cold or warm?
Have you tested resistance to ground of each pin on the Temp II sender?

The engine was warm when I first tried it, much like it was tonight.
We did some checks with an Ohmmeter 2 weeks ago and the Temp II is fine. That is one part I can definitely say is brand new since I got it from Roger almost a year ago and put it on 4 months ago.

I read a thread that PerryS4 had the same issues I had. He adjusted all his auxiliary cables and his idle returned to normal. Maybe loosening up the kickdown cable more and the cruise control one may tone down the backlash of the throttle plate closing.

This is what i would check. What you want to hear is a distinct click coming from the TPS (Throttle position switch) when the throttle returns to the closed position. The cables are often out of adjustment. With the car off you can just put your hand on the throttle cable arm on the side of the intake plenum, open the throttle and when you release and it closes you should hear a click which tells you that its engaging the ISV. If you do not hear a click then you can likely adjust your cable or worst case replace the TPS switch. If you hear the click then you need to move onto the ISV itself.
Personally ive found the WD-40 trick to be more of a problem creater then solver but others still swear by it. When i last used that my idle became even more erratic. YMMV

to adjust the throttle cable all you have to do is screw in the adjuster for the TPS/throttle cable,( the one that goes around the wheel)
When you adjust this cable then you should be able to hear the click of the TPS.
NOTE adding slack to this T cable is the same as making the bowden cable tighter, so if you like the shift points then you should also remove the same amount from the B cable..
BUT i would just adjust the T cable first to see if its causing the idle issues
This info is in regards to S4 and later

It's SF. There is no such thing as driving; it's either traffic or getting caught behind a slow *** Prius with some pot-smoking Lib listening to taped Obama speeches.
Adjusted the Bowden to add slack this morning and idle is smooth at 800 on a cold start. Who knows what it will do when the engine is at operating temperature though. I took the wife's Jetta in this morning to work.

I am not keen on wd40 as a cleaner/lubricant wd leaves a gummy residue that collects dirt and jams things up worse.
Be careful driving around those soon to be violent streets of SF. Of course feel free to give the horn broke watch for finger salute to Ms. Nancy P. For me .... If this should incite a riot you are in a fast getaway car.....

the Bowden cable has nothing to do with the throttle returning to idle. it is along for the ride on the shift quadrant, you should look and see what cable your actually adjusting
