They did mine but it's not like I mentioned they were car speakers. I just took them in. With the 91-95 rear speakers NLA and big $$$ when they were, it's a good option for those wanting to keep thier cars stock.

Mark I'll call them again tomorrow, the person on the other end wasn't a tech and also not very helpful. Next time I'll either hold for a tech or have them call me back, after all a speaker is a speaker and it shouldn't matter where it came from.

I would be really interested if they could upgrade the speaker for better sound, keeping my fingers crossed!

Afshin-

I had my woofers re-done by Simply Speakers in FL back in 2006, still working well today. It was $75 with round trip shipping. They appear to still exist:

Rob thank you for the heads up, I'll give them a call tomorrow. Did they offer any upgrades for the speakers or was it limited to refoam?

Just a re-foam. I'm no audiophile but I can't imagine what you'd be able to do to these speakers to improve their sound without essentially replacing the entire thing- the voice coil, the paper cone and the magnet are what they are.

That is really what I'm trying to find, someone that can upgrade all of the internals, not just the foam. I figure if it's going to get done, might as well spend the extra and have them upgraded if possible.

I'm really curious how Jeff's speakers turned out, hopefully he will post with some feedback.

I bought a spare pair of originals with the intention of doing just that. I mailed them to Chris Patrick of CPR racing- he was going to make deeper mounts that would accept aftermarket speakers, but that job never got finished. I've been trying to get them back from him for months but he's stopped responding to E-mails. Sigh.

I was thinking that drivers and crossover from a in-wall/in-ceiling speaker might be a nice fit for the rear passenger area. Those drivers are designed for use with some free air space behind them. There are also some pretty good T-amp bi-amp modules that run off of 12V, which would make amplification easier without having to mount amps in places you'd like to use for other things (my car came with a big, though nice, amp mounted in the RR passenger footwell!). MCM Electronics and Parts Express carry some of the types of stuff I'm talking about.

In the '85 S I used to have I installed Vifa separate drivers (mid-woofer and metal dome tweeter) in the doors, and they sounded awesome. The metal dome tweeter, with its wide flange, was also a perfect fit to replace the stock tweeter.

My S4 is going to need a significant audio overhaul, but that's a project that's backed up behind A/C, seat memory system, undertray, shifter bushings, and a few other things.

Cheers,
Paul
