I was curious as to what happened to the original interior.Did this get sold/scrapped, or is it still somewhere in Kiborts garage?

This should be one of the choices for the vote... perhaps a sales contract to guarantee a proper restoration, documentation and display of this VERY significant 928.

It's his car and he should do whatever he wants to with it. I'd like to see it restored and displayed but that's not Mark's responsibility. Who's going to fund such a restoration?

As stated before, you have a good stroker motor to take with you, I think that you will also get the most money by selling the car as complete as you can supply it, so you win too, well as much as you can in this circumstance anyway.

I don't think support from within our community would be lacking on a restoration project. How much that support might be I think would vary depending on the final disposition of the car. The safer, and more publicly accessible it is, likely the more support it would get.

For the Bonneville run the car had a full interior which used some weird plaid cloth seats as I recall..... Mark only PAID $5,000-6,000 for the "car" when he got it out of Reno ! as far as Porsche was concerned it was DONATED and was not to be registered due to the Euro vin ## THEY expected it to be taken apart !

Have it towed away after stripping it.

It's not repairable without huge expense. I'm apparently a heretic but it's not that remarkable. It's not a Le Mans winner or 1 of 12. If you think it is then you should be pretty angry that Mark was racing it. This current state is highly likely outside of historic races and even there people wad up $1,000,000 cars.

I think thats a great idea.
Like most 928's they have an intersting history but I cant think of one as significant as the actual Holbert car. If it were me I'd probably just put it in the corner of my garage for the next 20 years and think about doing something with it (read long term project disease, no money, no time, kids and so on). But for someone willing to take it off your hands as is, restore it (with the original engine) and keep the car in the public eye somehow thats probably a better option. I wouldn't like to cut her up, it would become just another statistic. I never like reading about famous race cars that no longer exist, I'm always wondering what it would be like to actually see them for real. Just my thoughts.

I'd buy a piece of it just have it to display with the fotos/video/fame that goes with the car. If he could sell enough collector pieces, perhaps it would take the edge off buying a replacement shell?

My wife paid an obscene sum for an historic brick from an old building...and it graces our bedroom. A Kibort fender would be about right.

I'm really not kidding. A piece of the car with this history should be worth something even if bent, right? Maybe put individual parts on eBay and let us bid on them? Even a small piece of metal cut from the door that contained part of the orginal racing decals would be better than a coil or something but both would be nice to have.

Perhaps someone should post a poll to see how many would buy something like this?

for a 928, it IS that remarkable. that Bonneville run is one of the main reasons i own a 928.

not to dredge up old ****, but some were angry (myself included) that he was going to race it. we knew this result was inevitable. at the time he said "pony up $20k and it's yours".

i did not have $20k at the time. it's not a $20k car now.

if i had the money and time, i'd take it and restore it. i'm sure i'm not the only one who feels this way...

If he takes my advice and sells the car whole sans the stroker motor. I honestly think that the Hobert one off intake manifold SHOULD go with the car.

There is a local fellow who says he is interested in the car but only with the origonal block, tranny, intake manifold, etc.

I'd kind of like to see the car restored, and maybe put out to stud with Sally Carrera.

I am a sucker for a happy movie ending. Can we go back and push it to the finish line ? That part always makes me cry.
