Default leak through gooseneck from engine to heater valve

I have found my coolant leak. It is at the back of the motor, where the short hose between the engine and the heater valve is. When I took off the hose, the metal sleeve that the hose attaches to freely slides in and out of the housing on the engine side. That doesn't look right at all, but the metal sleeve doesn't look damaged or anything. The car hasn't been run in a couple of years. In fact, this coolant leak is what took the car off the road at that time. I am confused by this sleeve. What needs replacing?

Long time(like years) lurker, first time poster. Thanks in advance.

BTW, it's a 1986.5 928S automatic.

Does it look like this?

If so, see Malcolm's recent thread.

Bill..............I had the exact problem a week ago.

The sleeve was afixed to the gooseneck by the factory with some sort of epoxy material. I attempted repair using RTV but was unsuccessful. The second fix was to remove the gooseneck and sleeve, clean both parts, apply a light coating of JB weld to the sleeve, insert into gooseneck.

I allowed the assembly to dry overnight then bolted back onto the block using some RTV on the gasket. Torque bolts to spec, top up the a/f reservoir, start car and check for leaks. This solution worked well for me, hopefully it does for you.

Welcome to RList.............nice car.

Here's the thread I posted..........

...........and they said it couldn't be done

It would appear that others have had similar issue; hopefully the thread can easily be found for futures. Search is your friend; right.

If the JB weld fix doesn't prove to be permenant now we know there's an upgrade part.........thx Jim.
