Default mirror switch removal

I searched the forum before and I did not get the answer so here it is.
My mirror switch is working sporadically with slow response time with the mirrors and poor contact. I would like to remove it to clean and lube. I checked the service manual online. Apparently there is no special procedure described the removal but a picture. My car has the full leather interior which makes it very hard to pry out the switch with a flat screwdriver without putting an indentation on the leather. Is there any special trick to pop the switch?
Thanks for the help.

Pull the mushroom cap off and grasp the stem with a pair of pliers and pull the whole thing out ... you'l be needing a new switch first though - they are not cleanable. Not very expenisive either though.

Just did that with help from Alan. New switch is about 60 bucks. Once my wiring issues got straightened out, it was a quick fix.

My switch had a threaded part that screwed into the bezel on the armrest. I just unplugged the wires and unscrewed it.

Note there are 2 types of switch depending on year - I seem to recall the later oine was quite a bit cheaper... was a while ago though.
