If you are planning to go into small business in Ontario, STOP! Yes, do make plans, yes do some small jobs under the table, get your feet wet, get a customer base and establish yourself but do not register with the province until you are relatively successful and that you have a regular stream of income.
The problem with registering your business at the onset is that you will get buried under a mountain of rules, regulations and the associated costs. You will also receive heaps of brown enveloppes and the bs that's in them. They will drive you crazy before you ever get going.
Remember, most small businesses FAIL, but they still demand their money and will haunt you for years afterwards to get it and seize your bank account as well as place a LIEN AGAINST YOUR PROPERTY.
The business climate has changed dramatically in Canada. Just walk into any small business and ask if they are happy with them.
