Default 928 odometer 100,000 mile digit inop

I have searched the threads on odometer issues but don't find the issue I am seeing. 1983 928 and odometer is working but never rolled over to 100,000. Show 017566 when it has 117566. Any ideas how difficult this might be to fix?

Its probably just a broken gear tooth. IMO you probably don't even need to replace. My guess is if you rotate the 100k actuating gear a couple of cogs, you will never see this again, unless you drive for another 900k miles. Disassembly of the odometer can be a real bugger because you have to pull apart the speedo (at least on my S4). The speed needle is press-fit into the gauge, so you have to pull it off CAREFULLY while rotating the needle around a little bit. Once that's apart, you remove the motor with the worm gear on it and there are a couple e-clips you'll have to pull off, these retain the drive gears. Once you disassemble the drivetrain of the odo, you should be able to rotate the digits freely and probably fiddle with the drive mechanism. I've never gone that far, because all of my digits work, but at least getting to that point isn't all that bad. Just be careful not to bend the speedo needle coming off.

to pop off the speedo needle or any other, try fitting a fork under the needle with a piece of blue tape under the fork so you dont damage the face of the gauge
