Default Unbelievable!

Just got a call from my wife - Malcolm, the Flyin Scottsman, was on his way down in his shark to my place for tomorrow's fun run, and after driving 5 hours in Alberta, got to the US border where he was turned back because he didn't have the correct paperwork!!!!! I don't know the details, because I didn't get a chance to talk to him, but damn, our southern border is open like a sieve to illegals, and one very decent, legal individual who wants to enjoy his sports car with other like enthusiasts can't get in for a weekend cruise!

Ha - with liberty and justice for all Give me a break

Thanks much Pres. Obama! UNREAL! I wonder if he was able to get a spouse that might still have been at home to FAX him what he needed... Hate the thought of going 5 hours and then having to turn around and go home! That SUCKS!

Few years ago Tim Murphy and I (with the wives) found out we were not able to cross into Canada due to the copious amount of booze we had in the two cars and only four people.
So we either had to dump 90% of our refreshments or somehow squeeze 25 more people into two Porsche’s.

No real point, just felt like sharing. Sucks all around for you and Malcolm. Next time have him take a boat to Mexico and drive up that way.

What paperwork do you need to enter / exit the US from Canada?

Pretty stupid and I agree with you.

It's easy for them to hassle the "documented aliens". Undocumented are of little or no concern.

Jeez, I hate all the PC crap.

I think you now need a passport to travel between the US/Canada or US/Mexico.

Actually it very believable and it's not Obama's fault. It goes back a little further than that. It's a foreign country for crisssakes. I'm sure you are all nice, white people, but w/o going into the chick or the egg thing 9/11 changed things. You either have a passport or you don't.

Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, looks like it started in June.

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/whti-ivho/ls-tm-eng.html

Land and water ports of entry
(Effective June 1, 2009)

Canadian citizens are required to present one of the following valid WHTI-compliant documents when entering the United States by land or water:

* a passport;
* a NEXUS card;
* a Free and Secure Trade (FAST) card;
* an enhanced driver's licence (EDL) or enhanced identification card (EIC) from a province where a U.S.-approved EDL/EIC program has been implemented; or
* a Secure Certificate of Indian Status (when this certificate is available and approved by the United States). In the interim, the current Certificate of Indian Status is an acceptable document to present when entering the United States by land or water.

No, it's this country! I'm not blaming the current administration, in fact the new rules were promulgated under the prior admin. I think thay are all ashat if truth be told. The problem is the hypocrasy - let the illegals flow, but the decent law abiding can go suck an egg. That's our problem, not Canada's.

BTW mods, this is 100% pure 928 content as it involves a well planned 928 fun run, so please don't flip this over to P&C.

Kudos to the border patrol....so how is it OK to allow undocumented Canadians in, but it's not OK for undocumented Mexicans? Don't understand right-wing logic...

We don't trust the Canadians, their beer tasted funny.

Right Wing Logic 101: Last I checked, our prisons were full of one and not the other, I'll let you figure out which one. Class dismissed.

That list looks to me to be very reasonable. I'm surprised a passport is not required. Come on, if you want to leave your country, isn't it common sense to have a passport? It's not hard or expensive to get and usually lasts 10 years. Yes, the situation sucks (in fact, I BTDT once too), but don't get mad at the border patrol because that's how it should be.

Speaking as a legal green card carrying Resident Alien, It took years to get here properly, in order to prosper, not be taxed to death, and avoid national health.

Now we are becoming what I wanted away from, seems you can just walk in if your name is Jesus Rodriguez, get a bank account, drivers license, health care and a 100% mortgage.

IT REALLY STINKS!

My understanding is that he had documantation, just not the right documantation. Malcolm is Scottish living in Canada (I believe). Anyway, I'm sure he'll enlighten us later today when he gets back home.
My problem is the hypocrasy in enforcement between the north and south, and the sheer madness of one size fits all type of government solutions to problems, rather than rational based and tailored solutions. If anyone thinks that a little crossing in Alberta to Montana represents the same risk level as the entry point to MX down by San Diego, then there is no hope for you. I used to live in Buffalo, and crossed frequently at the different crossing points, and it was rational and easy, and there were never any problems. The bad guys were usually caught, and everyone's liberty was not compromised as a result.
Come on folks, it doesn't need to be this way, and any thinking person can recognize this.
