my parking brake is toast thanks to the PO(just one more thing to fix) so when I put mine in park I let it gently come to rest so as not to put a lot of strain on the pawl.

The "movement" when "P" is engaged is typical of the Mercedes auto transmissions. It seems like more than it actually is, I believe. I've owned 4-5 MB's and four 928's with the same transmissions, and they all roll from an inch to several inches when P is engaged, and the car is not on a level surface.
