Shipping large boxes
Sorry about the OT question but I was wondering what do you guys use to ship seats, bumpers, doors, etc? USPS gave me a quote of $200 for a front fender from AL to CA. I think its nuts for anyone to pay that much to ship body parts. There must be an easier way.
I found some companies online but I can't get an instant quote, just those "give me your information and we will call you" quotes.

I've had seats and exhaust systems shipped Grayhound Bus and it took a while, but they come through fine and it was much cheaper. Grqyhound didn't come to Muncie, but it stopped at a town nearby and I just took the truck over and picked them up.

Yeah, I was just about to suggest greyhound as well. I hear they ship large boxes pretty cheap, they shipped two 90 lbs sea bags from ca to ny for around 65 bucks I believe (10 years ago...)

I've received S4 front and rear bumper covers that were shipped to Michigan from Florida and Texas last year; and I specified Greyhound each time. I think freight was around $65-70. Yeah it took a week -10 days but they got here in one piece and on the cheap. I'd recommend it.

I recently shipped a pair of Recaro SRD's via FedEx. Had to package them in a large U haul Wardrobe box and cut the box down to 21 x 24 by 33 inches to get anywhere near a reasonable price. The total was under $70 and the package weighed in at 79 lbs. If I planned on a larger box (eg 24x24X36) they were wanting like $200. If you can pack it small..Fed Ex is pretty good.

yeah, of all the shippers (fedex, ups, usps) fedex has the best rates. even better if you sign up for a free account, then you get an additional percentage off!

Cool, I just remembered the Corporate rate I have through FEDEX. The fender is $133. Then I tried a tranny. 125lbs, 30"x15"x15" from AL to CA for only $80.79. Something must be wrong with their rates, too cheap to ship a tranny. Are those dimensions about right?

I shipped a M28/11 complete (still on the engine X-member) from Houston to California for less than 300 bucks.
it all depends on who you use and what the dims are.
shipping discounts are everywhere is you know how to find them.....(I do).
