Default Cruise control cable too short?

I was working under the hood and checking my throttle linkage making sure my bowden cable was adjusted right and that my pedal was giving full throttle. After messing around under there, my cruise control cable was holding the throttle open and appears to be about 3/4" too short! I tried pulling on the cable with pliers and it must be stuck. I have left it disconnected for now until I can get it figured out.

Has anyone had this happen?

I'll guess that the cable sheath has come out of a connector at the firewall, or somewhere. That'd make it suddenly too short. Has happened to me in other situations.
