Default antenna windshield?

Hi all while washing my 84 euro last weekend I noticed that my windshield has a wire in it that runs up the center goes over the passenger side and down the passenger side pillar. I assume this to be a windshield antenna. If so could I utilize it for my radio reception and forego the retractable set up. Would there be a connector from the windshield buried under the dash somewhere?

thanks

Sam

It will be connected to the inside on the upper fire wall, then the cable has a small white connector that needs to have 12 volts on it to work on A.M. Pull your wiper cover off and you will see the connection point.

I will pull it apart and check it out. Not sure what you mean with the 12 volts for AM?

The radio will work OK on FM without the 12 Volts, but to get any AM reception you need the small white connector attached to a 12 volt source.
An aftermarket radio will not have this connector on it so you need to find a switchable 12 v source.
