Default info on the 928's

presently have this-bonestock 92 911 turbo look cab (964)

and this-04 limited edition cobra vert (built out, 575rwHP on dyno)

cobra is on the market with possible buyer....have been considering older "porsche muscle" as possible replacement...and this is available locally:

"This is a 1987 porsche 928 S4. grey interior, It's in excellent condition, with maintanence records of the last 15 years. $12,500 OBO
Garage kept. 32 valve V8 with 320HP. Very rare, one of few that are a 5 speed. Really clean, must see, looks amazing inside and out"....pics look good.

before i venture out can i have a snapshot of this car:
-dependability (i have no shop space & am dependent on mechanic for all work!!)
-parts sourcing
-prone to rust?
-transmission or clutch issues
-are most purchases made subject to full p.p.i.\
-price on this car is about US$11,000 and since its OBO, perhaps $10,000 is ballpark...reasonable??

thanks for any/all input.......

-dependability (i have no shop space & am dependent on mechanic for all work!!) Maintenance is important. Finding a good 928 mechanic even more.
-parts sourcing : No problem. 3 928 vendors in US. Autopartsway in Canada
-prone to rust? No. A lot of aluminum and galvanize steel
-transmission or clutch issues? Nothing so far
-are most purchases made subject to full p.p.i.\ PPI is a most
-price on this car is about US$11,000 and since its OBO, perhaps $10,000 is ballpark...reasonable?? For a 5 speed, it is a very good price if the car is in good condition

If your sure you won't be working on it yourself, you need to find a mechanic that knows the 928 AND wants to work on it that you like.

BE SURE to PPI by someone who actually KNOWS 928's! Joe average can take a look and say all is fine and next thing you know you are looking at $3k in repairs or more.

T-belt is important to have NOT BREAK so a new one every 5 years or so is really a must. On the 32V cars you can't afford to have that break.

Pretty solid cars though. The early S'4s (or maybe it is just mine, or maybe it is ALL of them) seem to get power steering leaks... Sometimes it is just the hoses sometimes it is the racks. Auto trans seem to develop leaks as they get up towards 110k miles or so... Not sure what that is about. My two highest mile cars have them (135k mile '92 GTS and 152k mile '81 OB)...

The 928 is a GREAT car and would pair VERY WELL with a 911 Cab I think! It would cost a small fortune to replicate the power you have in you 'Stang though! That or a quick trip to steal Louie Ott's engine! LOL! He put 611 to the pavement on his Dyno...
