I just popped the relay in place on my 1994 GTS and it works as specified i.e. the fog lights come on when the engine is started regardless of the position of the headlight and front fog light switches.
431 951 253 G=Audi Relay 381 (Pink apparently).

Am I safe to assume that in my 91 S4 it is plug and play with this relay?

I like the idea of DRLs.

Anyone know if an '85 ROW needs the wiring or just the relay? Thanks.

You will need wiring to the socket - this was already made clear I think - only 90+ have the socket wired for this.

Likely yes if it is truly an equivalent

Don't plug a standard 53B relay in this spot - if you do you may need a new AC condenser...

curious as to why one would want to make this modification. just turn on park lights when driving if you want daytime running lights. What's the additional benefit?

I think some countries required it at certain times - it's in fashion in new cars in the US right now (stupid idea!). I don't think any of these auto front lights only systems make any sense.

Turning the markers & fogs on would actually be much better for safety...

So, Alan, were you really thinking about that question for a year and a half?

No tail lights with this option. FWIW, I was ticketed once in Louisiana (near Barksdale AFB) for driving with only parking lights on. I don't know if those kind of laws still exist and where.

I did this mod last spring and like it. When cooking down the Autobahn at crazy speeds, it's nice to be seen and have that extra margin of safety. My only regret is, I put in 9 SMT LED H3s and I wish I went for something just a hair brighter. I bought the Audi relay on e-bay for ~$8.

Ed - it was a really tough one...

I came across the thread related to another one and saw an unanswered question.

Some other threads have identified a dangerous condition (for your condenser) if you use a 53B relay here - so posted some on that and couldn't help but answer this question... then I looked at the date (holy thread resurrection indeed...).

I almost deleted that content... but thought WTH...

Nice idea, But for me ,Can't see the point of drawing more attention from "Johnny Law" before I've had a chance to slow down

I had a customer request this on an 88. Instead I changed the power source to the headlight switch. Now he can leave his switch in the running lights position, and if he removes the key the lights go off. This way his tail lights remain on too, which is much much safer.
