Peachstate 928 Dyno Day and Drive - 10/17+18/09
Mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Peachstate 928 Dyno Day on October 17th, 2009. The event will once again be hosted by Howard Wright of European Classics and we'll be using the dyno at Lamar Walden Automotive. The shops are across the street from each other on Steve Dr. in Doraville, Ga.
Howard was a Porsche Master Technician for twenty years with Atlanta area Porsche dealers including Brumos and became THE 928 specialist. He continues to service 928s regularly at his shop and is an incredible resource for service and information plus he's a pretty cool guy too. We'll be putting together a tech session at Howard's so send me your suggestions of what you'd like to see. Walden Automotive is an impressive shop as well as you can see on their website. They agreed to a price for the dyno of $50 per car for up to 3 pulls each. I had to commit to a minimum of 12 cars to get them to open up on Saturday. We'll be running from 10:00 to 5:00 with a break for lunch so we'll have time for 15 or 20 tops.
Mike Simard with his monster and Abby with his turbo car will be there. I can't wait to see these cars spin the dyno.
We'll have coffee and donuts ready at our house at 8:00 so everyone is welcome to meet here so that we can caravan to the shops just before 10:00. We're only 15 minutes away. After the fun at the shops is over, we'll head back to the house to fire up the grill and hit the tap on the kegerator. Send me a pm if you plan to run your car on the dyno or if you have any questions. I'll post directions once we get closer to the event date. Last year's Dyno Day was great and I've been looking forward to this ever since.
Since the event is in October this year, it would be a perfect time for a drive in the north Georgia mountains. We're not that far away from some really fun twisties and the fall foliage should be a site to behold since our drought is a thing of the past. Let's make a weekend out of it and go for a drive Sunday morning. I'll be plotting the course soon and will post it once I have it mapped.

Crap, I'll be out of town (GT vs. FSU game in Tallahassee) and I just got a multitude of things fixed. I'd love to know what I'd dyno now, should be much improved over last time with the y-pipe and borla and oh yeah...getting enough fuel. Still looking at the 10th?

The 17th would work for me. I'm flying out to LA on the 18th, so it'd be a good way to head outta town. I don't want to push it for everyone, but if it changed I'd be there.

Hi Mike; if you're still planning this I now find that not only do I have the conflict on the 10th (I'll be in Daytona) but we have a wedding to go to on the 17th....

I've revised the original post. The date is now 10/17. Sorry Callouie, the deed was done before I saw your post although I have added a Sunday mountain drive so hopefully you can make it for that.

Hope to see you there, Mac. Make plans to go for a drive on Sunday too.
Here's a link to last year's event thread. Good times!

Sorry you won't be able to make it, Dick. Hopefully the wedding is local so you can join us for a drive on Sunday. We'll most likely be cruising by not too far from you at some point along the way. Maybe you can help me come up with a route for the drive?

Hey Mike; I've been laying low for a few days with a stomach bug of some sort; the wedding is up near Knoxville so it's going to be an overnight trip. How far do you want to drive on Sunday? One cool drive starts at the north end of GA 400, if you just follow GA 19 from there to Blairsville it's a very entertaining drive and should only take about 90 minutes each way from the perimeter.

928 OC Sponsorship
I just got the word from Stan Shaw that we've been approved for 928 OC sponsorship so I'll be ordering t-shirts soon. They'll be black this year with the pic in my avatar on the back and the 928 OC logo on the front.
I've had around 10 people contact me directly with plans to attend either Saturday, Sunday or both but there hasn't been much response here on R'list. I've been a bit busy cleaning up the mud from the flood so I haven't been online much and haven't had time to set the route for the mountain drive but I hope to next week.
Anybody out there besides Mark and utjmac planning to join us? We had an awesome turnout last year and it would be great to see all of you again. I know you're out there.

Mike but it looks like I have to fly to LA on the 18th for meetings so I'm going out a little early and try to catch Sharktoberfest and the Kibort rebuild. Sorry I won't be able to make the dyno day, but I expect to see video!

Sorry you won't be able to make it Mark but I can't argue with your plan. I'm sure you'll have a great time with the folks in Ca.
It looks like I may have to cancel at least the dyno portion of the get together since the dyno shop requires at least 12 cars ($600) to open up shop on Saturday. Unless I can get quite a few more people to commit to run on the dyno by this weekend, it won't be a Dyno Day. Hopefully we'll still have enough to get Howard to open up shop. Either way, I'm going for a drive in the mountains on Sunday if anyone wants to join me.
