Default Isn't it great owning a 928?

At lunch today ... an older gentleman walks up to me, says "is that your Porsche outside?"

Turns out he owned 2 928s in the 80s and just had to tell me how much me misses having one. Says he's been thinking lately about buying one and restoring it ...

Told him if we'd met two weeks earlier I'd have suggested he drop by OCIC and check out about 75 928s.

Sounds like a cool guy. Did he say what vintage he owned previously?

You should have mentioned our OC GTG's on the 2nd Sat at HOOTERS for now...probably try Bone Daddy's next month though...

Did you get any contact info from him? This is the kind of person who needs my DVD too! LOL!

I was just thinking this very thing, how great it is to own my 928, just the other night.

I dropped off my kid at her friends house and on the spur of the moment went for a 45 min cruise through the rural roads out here. Had the best time, sun setting, checking out the scenery, not really pushing it, marveling at how well my car runs after 20+ years. Thinking how lucky I was to own one.

It was best drive I'd have in a long time.

I was thinkingthat just last week, and similar thoughts were expressed by the fellow caravaners gently carving our way through the NM and Texas countryside.

My car just feels like it belongs at speed. Can't say what speed that was, of course, but it was in that 3000 RPM plus area that my car just never sees in my normal driving pattern. Swept the cobwebs out of the right side of the tach.

I agree.

I feel totally blessed when I can head out on a road and enjoy mine when she is running the way she should. I also get a huge feeling of relief when someones car I work on leaves and then calls to say the car is better than when it came in.

That to me is satisfaction.

A co-worker came up to me a couple of days ago and asked if I had repainted my 928 a weird pink color. He thought he had seen me driving in south Austin in it. He was surprised when I told him how many 928 owners I know of in Austin, but it was pretty easy to figure whose car he saw

I took a buddy out for a drive the other day. It was the first time he'd ridden in the 928. He was smiling almost the entire time, and he actually laughed a couple of times in disbelief. It's fun driving fast with a passenger who's never experienced the thrill before. It reminds me why I'm so lucky to own a 928.

It was a laugh of joy/excitement/fright... taking corners at excessive speed, downshifting and thundering past slower cars on the highway... that type of thing. He was loving the ride, and it made him hate his lexus.

...Or he may have just been laughing at the fact that I (a very mild mannered basically non-thrill-seeking type guy) was driving a car like I was insane. I become a different person in my 928.

Tom, you are right about previous owners. But it seems that I also have conversations with "outsiders" more often these days who recognize the greatness of 928s, and to me that seems a more recent development.

Like the preacher to the choir, I am convinced that one day 928s will be widely appreciated for they are:

The most uncompromising sports car ever built.

I too have noticed an uptick in recognition of the greatness of these cars. Even among young teen drivers... They just HAVE to get a look at this car!!! The brighter colors do attract much more attention too.

I think I noticed at least 4 cars that just HAD to get close to the white GTS today! They were ogling the car like it was a Ferrari or something... I have to say I don't mind that at all...
