Hi,
Further to a post I made a couple of weeks ago looking for a blue GTS, and based on a recommendation to look at ROW models I started looking in europe. I found a blue '94 GTS which is really nice, but the pictures and description don't confirm whether it's iris or midnight (i.e. crappy pictures and they only say that it's metallic blue). However, what's a little strange is in the description it denotes that it's 4957 cm3 and 243 kw (~325 HP). So my question is, did the euro models come without the 5.4 liter/350 HP engine or is this an example of an inept car dealer?
Thanks for the help!
Cheers,
Doug

All GTS' had 5.4L engines with 345bhp.
It is possible they don't know, or it's possible an earlier engine has been installed. The S4 and GT engines look the same from the outside. Engine ID number is the only thing that will prove what is actually in there.

I believe the differences come from the just the type of measurement used, sae and the Porsche european method which I can't recall, but as far as I am aware same engine.

ROW hp number factory used is measured in DIN while US model use SAE net. This means ROW GTS has 350 (which is 257 kW) while US has 345. Tq numbers use different units of measurement but they mean same, 500 Nm and 369 ft. lbs. All GTS use exact same engine parts and engine management. Almost all ROW GTS had cats. Only cars sold to Saudi Arabia, possibly Gulf states and some other exotic placed had non cat style potentiometer adjustment and large silencer instead of cat converter. Those might have few hp more than all others.
There are some ROW S4 around which have been converted to GTS look early on in their life. Reason for this can be that so many '91 S4 remained unsold when GTS was introduced that some might have got GTS rear end even before they were sold to first customer. Other likely reason is that 928 had much better brakes than most cars at the time. Because of this some got rear ended in traffic lights early on in their life and it was tempting to fix body by using GTS parts to gain latest model look.

Greg go back and read the post again, the engine displacement is listed as 5.0L, not 5.4L... ALL GTS's have 5.4L engines.
Don't know about importing to Canada, but right now it would be a STUPID idea in the US! The cost of Euro GTS's is still QUITE high (usually higher mileage and harder driven than US cars which are actually CHEAPER now to boot) and import to the USA if you just dropped it off at an RI (Registered Importer...the only people who can accept a non US car at the port of entry) it would cost you AT LEAST $13k to convert it to US specs and pass emissions tests.
So, you pay more for a car with more and harder miles, then you have to ship it (to Houston from Germany in 2000 was $2100 or so...not bad, but IT WILL be more scratched than when it left Germany), federalize it, and register it... Not to mention unless you have someone you REALLY, REALLY trust who also happens to REALLY, REALLY know 928's you have NO IDEA what you are buying!!
I could not recommend importing a car from Europe less... UNLESS you REALLY have researched it to the N'th degree and know exactly what you are doing and either fly over to see the car yourself or have someone you would trust with your LIFE to check it out for you! I had both of the latter and still it was a BIG DEAL!
Here is my write up:

Then click on the "MUSIC" link near the top of the web page... I know that is strange but it was the only place I could put the info...

Thanks for the help and the link (which I haven't looked at but will shortly), it is appreciated.
BTW, I used to live in Austin, the north end by 4 corners...miss it especially in the winter it was beautiful. Hope all is well.

James,
The write up on your home page was very informative. Sure answered a lot of questions I've had for a long time. Good luck with the Speed Yellow '95, as one would look good in your collection.
