Confirm Hollow-Spoke Wheel Designation
Hi All,
I recently got a good deal on some genuine 18" Turbo Twists in almost perfect condition. The guy I bought them from said they were take-offs from a Carrera 4 & they have Carrera 4 caps but that doesn't mean anything...
Anyway, I am trying to confirm that these are hollow-spokes. The rear wheels are number 993.362.140.04, 10x18 et65, and the fronts are number 993.362.134.06, 7.5 et50. According to this reference: http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars/WheelWts.html, the rears are solid spoke Turbo's, but I cannot find a number to reference the fronts....
I have never seen the backside of a hollow-spoke but if you look at the photo I have posted they would appear to have hollow-spokes to me. Can someone confirm what model the fronts are from, and also if the wheels are hollow-spoke? I don't care either way; just curious more than anything : )
Thanks,
-Mark

those are NOT hollow spoke
If you think of the cross section of the actual spoke, the hollow spoke is more oval shaped and oblong, and smooth on both the face that you see, and the inside of the spoke. Those have what i will call a "W" cross section based on the 2 grooves you see on the backside of the spoke.
They are factory wheels, but they are not the lighter hollow spoke wheel. I do believe those are correct for a C4S. I believe only the Turbo had the hollow spokes although the C4S wheels look identical from the outside.
Again, those are NOT hollow spoke.

Thanks, Ryan. Yes, I see what you are saying regarding the "W" cross sectioning. Again, I don't care either way, the purchase was for looks really, and some added meat in the rear. I paid $600 for them locally and only one has a small almost unnoticeable imperfection on it. I don't race my car so the need for less rotating mass is not that great to me. But I thought the C4S wheels were 8" fronts, not 7.5?

I'm not aware of any 911 7.5" fronts, perhaps from a Boxster: anyway, these 'solids' will have an 11 character ID number on an adjacent spoke. eg., 993 xxx.....are 993 wheels, etc .
The ET50 is typical of a front wheel, and ET40 or 45 ( 10 or 11") are rears from a wide body car (C4S, Turbo), with ET65 from narrow body chassis

Yes I had already posted the number in my first post, as quoted above, however I can't seem to locate a reference for it. Weren't Boxster "twists" 17" anyway?
