Hi guys,
I am currently replacing all pistons, seals and dust seals on my calipers. A problem I have is that one dust seal tore and the ring is still stuck in the caliper. The ring is metal inside and rubber outside, so I can't get it out with a pick or screwdriver without nicking the groove in which it sits. The only solution I came up with is burn it out with a heat gun or a torch. Didn't try it yet, but will tomorrow. Does somebody have any other ideas I might try before that?
Thanks!
Ps. I've been busy doing a suspension/brake/steering job the whole week and I think I've must have said "righty-tighty, lefty-loosy" followed by simulating turning with my hand about a thousand times. Anybody else do that or am I the only loony around here?
Oh yeah, two of my fingers are twice the normal size for busting them on some part and I keep wondering if Porsche deliberatly put something in front of the part I'm trying to get at just to anoy the heck out of folks. Anyhow, fun times!

This is the correct attitude for 928 ownership and maintenance.
You will succeed on this project.

Aryan,
I've been successful getting these out with a fine pick that has a 90 degree bend on the end. It is a bit touchy, and takes a few tries to get the right "bite" on the ring, but it's always come out. Good luck,

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I bought a fine pick and was able to get them all out. All that was needed was to break the tension on the seal. Once that is done, it comes out easily. Wonderful though how some encouragement and a fresh day can make a difference to trying to get this done at the end of a long day. Meanwhile all calipers are bolted back on and new brake lines are installed.
