Default Dashboard and body kit question

Im sure many will think Im crazy for asking this but has anyone swapped out their gauge cluster and gone with a different one? Im picking up a project car and looking to customize the interior as well as the exterior. Im also looking into getting a body kit. I like the Jaquemond kits but their prices seem a bit over the edge. Are the any other kit manufactures out there that make a good kit. If anyone has done any of this please post some pics. Imlooking for a few ideas.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
928 Motorsports offers the AIR kits. I don't know if any one has swapped out the cluster, but I bet mentioning the MY of your car might help, if anyone has.
Good luck.

Mostly instrument swaps I've seen have been for track cars going to a very basic set with an 'unfinished' look. I am not aware of anyone doing this on a street car to finish it to a 'factory like' finished look...

However for an early car its not unreasonable to consider this...

To clarify, I'm not building a German ricer. My goal is to start where porsche left off. At least my perception of it. A car like the shoes ones wears tells alot about a person.

Many years ago, there was "phat928" - a custom 84 with Koenig body kit. He had different instruments mounted in the pod, but I don't know, if those ever worked. The guy who has the car now said that there were all kinds of wiring issues on that car.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I just got my first 928, a '79 Euro. AWESOME car as is! And I as well, do not want a german ricer, I already have a jetta. But, why not restore the car's beauty and modernize it?? Doesn't it deserve it? I was actually just about to post in my thread from when I got the car, but this is exactly what I'm thinking about mine. What's the general concencus on keeping a '79 Euro, bone stock, or tastefully modernized so that the car is guaranteed to live on forever? Or, maybe someone wants to make it into a german ricer..

I want to paint the car in a 90's green yellow. I can't think of the paint code and MY... yet. I also want to give it a tasteful carbon fiber body kit, maybe put a OB spoiler on to stay grassroots with all of the other modernized body panels. Maybe a carbon fiber interior with custom leather seats... If only I had time... I guess I wouldn't have to post at 1:00am either. Anyways, just wanted some input on the ideas, and I guess the question is, does anyone else's input really matter on a car that you drive everyday. It has to match your personality and taste, or what's the point?

Peace,
The Sharkologist

It doesnt matter but I needed some ideas. Of course like you said its about personality and self representation. I have my uphostry guy comming up from Philidelphia tomorrow with some samples. I know my dash with be black leather with most likely a white or posssibly a red stitching. The rest of the interior will match as well. Unique and bold to the point of making one hell of a statement is what Im after.

What sorta changes are you looking for in the instrument pod?
Tokyo by night Lexus type CFL lit needles?
Glass cockpit with Vista?
Couple thousand dollar race gauge instrument set?

I think some LED lighting helps the factory pod look sharper at night.

OK so what kinds of things are you thinking about? The guages are all pretty independant so you can swap them easily for other analog equivalents.

A possibility it to adapt some kind of wide LCD (behind transparent plastic) as a reconfigurable display system, or combine something similar with a few fixed analog guages - e.g. stick with analog for Speedo & tach but reconfigurable for everthing else - this could even incorporate a different implementation for the warning system mesages.

Its also possible to keep the stock instruments and add an additional fixed pod on the dash above the center console - this could provide for LCD displays for navigation, additional guages, extra controls (phone/radar detector, rear camera etc).

What kind of thing are you thinking about... keeping the pod and changing the contents or more radical than that...?

It may also be possible to adapt a later pod to an earlier car - there will be some issues - but it will fit and most features didn't change that much until the Digi Dash.

Several folks have done updated LED lighting (brighter/colors) as well as backlit guage dials (by speedhut).

To be honest I like the gauges that come in the Ferarri F430 Scudaria. Obviously thats not possible to put in our cars but the overall design and that race look is really what Im after. My whole interior is being recovered in black leather with white stitching possibly blue stitch when I decide on a color for the exterior. Ive read other posts where people have mentions a rear seat delete. Is this something thats being made by a company or individuals? Im eliminating the two side windows and going with the Jaquemond rear hatch. My upholstry guy put off his trip up here until next week. SO that will give me a little bit more time to determine my final inteior design. Ill start posting pics hopefully this weekend of the train wreck interior thats currently in there. I plan on replacing anything thats looks to be a problem mainly wiring. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please post. Or any pics please I would love to see your creations. Im sure others would as well. One other question, how do I become a paid member of this site? I want to make a donation as soon as possible.
Thanks again,
Steve

F430 cluster, I think.

Main problem I have with the stock 928 gauges now is the fatter smaller Momo wheel is partially obscuring the outer gauges.
