928 delorean
while there have been a few delorean related threads here on rennlist, ive not seen any with 4.5 m28 swaps. well i pulled my 2.8 PRV v6 ( the ONLY engine that ever came with these cars, man there are so many ill informed people when it comes to the engine these cars have) tonight and decided to throw the 4.5 in to see if it would work, surprisingly it might, move the water pipes and the cam boxes might fit, and its looks like it may fit under the lid too. exhaust isnt too cramped, cutting the rear of the frame off would be nessesary to fit the waterpump and really long crank pulley. and this is all without pushing the tranny forward. this is about where the engine would sit. maybe.....
and to you stainless dream haters, Bog off its really just a joke mock up. thanks

some sources say a vw beetle some say a 911 drivetrain was used in BTTF3 for the off road scenes when marty goes back to 1885, the rest of the movies were factory v6s with v8 sounds dubbed over.
contrary to belief the PRV can be a stout and powerful engine, im building a 3.0 from a '88 Eagle Preimer which is fully forged and had much better heads and EFI. mild turbo PRVs can reliably pump out 350hp. the exhaust and US spec heads really choked out its natural 200hp potential. the PRV was kind of a last minute resort before production started in '81. the prototype had a scamp 2L citreon 4 banger making a pathetic 109hp. John delorean went to Porsche to hire them to do the engineering for the car in '77 but they wanted too much money and too much time so JZD went to Lotus. just imagine, this m28 could have come in a DMC factory if Porsche had done the mechanical design.

Does the motor sit on or behind the rear axle?
Always thought the DMC was a mid-engined car.
The V8 in the stainless wonder would be cool.
How strong is the transmission?

That's a cool idea. I always wanted to do a DMC with some sort of transplant motor. I remember as a kid, some car magazine imagined a Grand National 3.8 T motor with some sort of Buick front drive transmission supplying the power in one. But any V8 would would cool too.

Hmmmm...
John DeLorean approaches Porsche in 1977.
Porsche begins production of 928 in 1978.
Porsche has an all-stainless '78 in their museum.
Could it be... the inspiration for the 928 is John DeLorean?
(and one of the few competitors for the 928 in the US was DMC... who's owner was 'introduced' to a drug cartel for funding... hmmmm?)

John Z's company when they went bust owed about 85 million he made around 9,000 cars which equates to around $ 9,000 per car sold NEGATIVE......best thing about the PVR 6 engine may have been that he did not pay for many of them since they owed Renault around $15 million. Irish government as I recall lost about 100 million on the factory they built. And Johny Carson dropped in a ton of money in a early Delorean tax shelter for the new "technology"which was never used.

I remember stopping at one of the sleaze used car lots in south Anaheim, and they had a Delorean and a Bricklin side by side, both too small inside for adults. Only gull wing I ever lusted for was the old 300 SL.
