Default A basic coolant change question

Search provided some excellent write-ups including the recent one by Dwayne, but I didn't see a basic question addressed.

That question being, does it make any difference if one uses ramps vs. the level elevation of a lift or Porken bars? All I have are the nose elevating ramps, and I was wondering if that would have any negative impact on how thoroughly the radiator and block would drain. Thanks in advance.

FWIW I've always changed the coolant with the front on stands and the rear on the ground. That results in something like 3 gallons of coolant when you drain both the radiator and the block, which I consider to be pretty well "changed."

Draining with the car level will result in over 3 gallons of coolant. Since the block drains are not quite at the rear of the block you'll probably leave a quart in each side of the motor if the front is up and the butt is down.

There are a couple opinions on whether you want the nose high when you burp the system after refilling. I'm of the mind that the car shoul;d be level or maybe even nose-low for the burping. Stan (MrMerlin) opines that the nose should be higher.

On your drain question, the difference would be negligible, especuially after you flow a bunch of hose water through the system and the heater to get the old stuff out. At that point, the only possible difference you'd be seeing is a quart or less of tap water contamination in your new coolant charge. It's only a difference when you use distilled water after the coolant goes in, and even then it's less than a quart in four gallons, one in sixteen mineral contamination from your flush water. Not enough to get excitted about in my opinion.

Thanks guys. Sounds like it's no biggie either way. I'll do my best, make sure it's topped off, and not worry about it after that.
