Projector headlights...redux
50mm projector system from my old '81 installed into my '85 5-speed. It only required some minor grinding to fit up to the ABS opening. (ABS was optional in '85.) I need to find a non-ABS splash shield for it.
I think it looks better with the stock bumper lights, compared to my '81 which was really stripped down. ('81 projector thread.) The '85 came without the spoiler, grill, etc installed, because it had run into something before I bought it. I haven't made time to fix it, yet.
I can really feel the >20lb less weight on the front end in the steering effort, which was already quite light. With >100 rwhp more than my '81, the weight I take off the '85 really makes it fly!
FYI: Looking at the site that I originally bought the 50mm housings, I see that they have a less expensive 60mm housing which would probably work well. (rallylights.com)

Not for me. I like the pop up aspect of the lights. I've never liked the projectors on any car.

Ha! This is a definately a one-off for weight savings on my second, lightweight, 928. The popups had some minor crash damage, so it was easy to justify removing them.
Anyway, as you can see by the replies above, fixed headlights are not that popular. If it had a well formed clear cover, and a lower cover (maybe painted to match the body), then it might be better recieved.
It was nice to just bolt it on, though, as if it were a kit - I didn't even have to re-aim the beams!

Not high beams. Those are the DOT aiming nubs.
Porken, are the projectors high enough to clear the front of the headlight well or will you need to bubble the clear cover to raise the lights just a tad more?
Any nighttime pics of the projectors against a wall?
So projector headlights don't have a pattern cutoff like the H4's, right?

Ken, I like the idea. Nice work. However, my preference would be to cut the fender in the shape of the entire headlight area. The oval shape. Then, fit your projectors and cover the assembly in lexan to cover the entire area cut from the fender. Hope that makes sense. Very cool!
