Part Needed: Passenger side exhaust manifold for 81
Well this really sucks. Finally got the exhaust stud drilled out and tapped. Changed the fuel lines tonight and started to put the exhaust manifold back on and couldn't believe it was cracked. When I pulled it I was looking at it and thought it might have a crack but I wasn't sure. Well bumping it around a bit must have cracked it good. So I'm needing a passenger side exhaust manifold for my 81. Hopefully someone in DFW has one so I can get it this weekend at the breakfast. I haven't called Roger or Sean yet so my fingers are crossed.
Can these things be welded? Should these things be welded?

Is that really cracked all the way through? Damn, that's a first for me.

Good time to slap on some 85/86 manifolds.
Otherwise I know I have at least two sets of these somewhere. Yours for shipping assuming I can find them

Hacker thanks for the offer. I just might need them please take a look if you get a minute. John has a pair of 84 Euros but where not sure they're the same as the U.S. 81. Sean and Roger also might have one. If these fall through I would need to find another one.

Jason,
I have an 79 Euro motor that still has the manifolds on it. It is an M28/01 motor, I am not at home right now so don't know what the manifold parts number is on it. I can check this evening. I am planning on coming up for the DFW GTG Saturday.

Jason, if you can get Hackers to install, that would be the way to go. Someone else will know for sure if they will fit, but they are a much better header.

I have a couple sets of stock 78-84 manifolds in a box, not 85/86 units.
Sorry for the confusion.

Hacker what's the part # on them? Does anyone know if the euro headers are different from the US headers.

Sean, Roger, and I have been looking for this part # and it does not show up in the PET. Anyone have any idea about this part #? Also if I get in a jam on this can this be welded?

Any bets that is a casting number and not a part number?

To answer both questions.
All the cast manifolds should/will work on your car.
Welding cast steel apparently CAN be done. I have YET to see one that hasnt broken again though. And in very short order too.
The trouble is in order to weld it you have to get special welding rods and you MUST heat the part up to cherry red with a oxy-act or oxy-propane torch with a rosebud on it. For anything tubular like this you really should seal off one end (head side) and should evacuate the center with the proper gas. Then after all that and keeping it red hot you would need to weld it. And then you have to have it cool properly too. Very difficult and too time consuming for most people to bother doing. Esp when old good ones are so easy to find. If it were the 931 exhaust manifold that is another story.
