Default What brings everyone back to these cars?

I had a 944 Turbo, 928S4, and many other cars - but I keep wanting a 928 again. I also have a Miata, and that's the only other car I can think of that people leave and come back to many years later.

What does everyone miss most after leaving the 928?

There's no explanation really, it's just an illness; incurable to most.

It does everything really well and it really is a well thought out sports GT car. It was one of the few cars built by Porsche were costs/profit weren't one of the biggest factors in its design/construction. Seriously, when sitting in a air cooled 911 it becomes immediately obvious that they never bothered paying much attention to the interior.

It does everything very well. Some things it does exceptionally well. For me it strikes a balance I have not found in any other car. No other car brakes as well AND handles as well AND has the power AND the comfort AND the looks AND is exclusive AND on and on and on. I suppose a much newer 911 may do many of those things but the cost is prohibitive, at least for me. And the newer 911's are a dime a dozen, you see them everywhere. Took a short trip into town today and saw 3 996/997's. I can go weeks without seeing another 928!

It's the best Mercedes Porsche ever built... just kidding!

It's a unique combination of engineering and design, which will never be done again - at least not at Porsche. This is the last true designer car, where a small team of design experts built the best car they could imagine - not a car Marketing thought they should cobble together to appeal to the broadest audience.

50 km/h speed limit inside a city, 100 km/h speed limit outside a city on a non-highway and 130km/h speed limit on the highway.

Engineering excellence and exceptional design that looks modern even after 30 years. An engine with so much untapped performance potential and exclusivity.

For the thrill, drama and contentment of owning something few can or ever do.

Only 928s or mentally disturbed lovers can whip up such intense emotions or drain your wallet faster.

All of the above and the fact that it's highly unusual. I like cars where I don't see myself coming and going every day. The day I get caught in a traffic jam with other 928s has got to be SITM or some other gathering, because I see another one on the road maybe 3-4 times a year otherwise. Someone yelled out "nice Ferrari" last weekend (just before the radiator went), but then when we were waiting for the two truck another guy came up and said "I love 928s, best car Porsche ever made." Ironic comment with a puddle of coolant under the nose....

We also have a Subaru Baja which you don't see every day, and our most common car is a Jeep Commander which is relatively common...but ours has a hemi. Even my kids like the fact we have unusual cars. "Why would anyone drive a Toyota?"

I see no more than 2-3 per year in my neck of the woods.
Love the exclusivity
