Default Should I sell my original stereo parts? Selling my very custom system from my S4

When I got my 93 GTS a couple of years ago, the stereo didn't work. I didn't think it was a big deal at the time, because I thought I would put the stereo that I took out of my S4 in the GTS.

The system I had in my S4 was an all-out system, with a custom amp rack that fit in the back hatch floor, a 12" sub where the spare tire goes, and even an 8" sub in a custom fiberglass enclosure in front of the brake pedal! My S4 was not in great shape on the interior, so taking out original parts and replacing them with custom work wasn't that big a deal in that car. But after I got this beautiful, almost pristine 93 GTS, I decided I really couldn't do that much cutting and mods to the interior of it.

It took me quite a while to come to this conclusion. Almost two years of some pretty long and VERY QUIET trips!

Anyhow, I just installed a new Nakamichi head unit, and my Dynaudio three-way component set from the S4, and I'm going to live with it for a while as is.

Should I keep the original tweeters and midranges that came out of the door panels? The surrounds are all rotten. Should I keep the original head unit? Should I keep the original amplifier that I took out to make room for the crossover units?

I'm not inclined to keep any of those original pieces, and I think there might be someone out there who would actually like to have them for original restoration. But I could be convinced that I need to hold on to them in case I want to put the car back to original. But why would I do that when the system doesn't work? I don't know.

Is anyone out there interested in the rest of the system from my S4? I have pictures I can email. It consists of a custom, beautiful birdseye maple amp rack that fits the back hatch floor area of our cars, two Xtant amplifiers, an Xtant parametric EQ, The Cap, a JL Audio 12" sub in a custom rounded natural wood box that fits in the spare tire area, and the 8" sub that fits behind the brake pedal. The amp rack is designed like the Xtant amplifiers with copper screen and a custom made polished aluminum cover for the subwoofer. There are lots of custom details with this system, not to mention the fact that the only space that's taken up inside the car is about 2" of the floor space in the back hatch area. I was going to build a cover for the amp rack that would make the whole system stealth. I could sell the components separately on ebay, but I thought I would check here if someone wants a system already made to fit in our cars. I may start a separate thread on this.

What's the original head unit? I need one for my '93 GTS, it originally had a CD-2 single CD player.

I think it's got a cassette player in the head unit and it can operate a CD changer.

I forgot to mention that I've got a CD changer that I won't be using either.

I haven't been around here in so long, I've forgotten how to post pictures.

Let's see if this works.

Cool, that worked.

The system comes apart and goes back together very quickly. For instance, it would take me less than five minutes to get the battery out, and about the same to put everything back together.

The top part of the rack comes off with four cap screws, "The Cap" tilts back and is held in place with a metal rod, the 12" sub box lifts out, and you're there. I purposely made everything very tight fitting, rugged, and easy to remove and replace.

Greg you may be able to get new surrounds made for the midrange speakers, here is the link: http://www.simplyspeakers.com/15refoaming.htm

If you decide to get rid of the speakers let me know, I might be interested in the mids and rear speakers.

For those looking for something custom, I've heard Gregs system before he sold the S4 and it sounded amazing. Crisp, clean and balanced. Definitely something to consider if you want great sound.

Aside from the subwoofer in front of the brake pedal (?), I would use the S4 system as you have it in the GTS. It can be removed quickly and easily... just replace the speakers that are rotted with same-sized aftermarket ones.

Great looking rig!

Which JL is it? Definitely not a W0... 12W4?
What do you have more mids and highs? I'm looking for a set of JL components for my 80' doors. I have JL components w/ crossovers [custom tool tray mounted] for my rears.
Did you have any overheating issues with the Xtants?

Yeah, it really was a very nice sounding system. Not bass heavy, audiophile, well balanced, clean, even at high volume levels. I found myself only doing serious listening with the engine off, sitting in a quiet place. Otherwise, it was just a loud stereo competing with the loud 928. This is one more reason why I'm not putting the system in the GTS. I've got several very nice systems to listen to music, I don't need to be running my battery down in the Porsche to listen to Steely Dan.

For speakers, I only have the mids and tweets from the doors to sell.

I've installed a three-way Dynaudio component set - the mids and tweets in the doors and the 7" woofers fit nicely in the factory locations just behind and to the sides of the seats.

I can't bring myself to modify the hatch area of the GTS to put the amps, sub, and amp rack back in. I don't need that much of a system any more anyway.

That avatar cracks me up.

I can't remember the model number of the JL. It's a DVC and was probably purchased in 2003.

No problems with the Xtants. One of them is a very nice sounding amplifier, I think it's a model 2200, and I used that on my Dynaudio components. Man, what a sound I could get with that amp. Not high power, but just great quality components.
