In the process of changing the spark plugs, I took off the air filter assembly and found a hose that connects to nothing i can find, it is not the air filter box as there are no unaccounted for connectors. This hose (red square) in on the passenger side (1984S) and runs parallel just below the manifold cover.
The other obect is an aluminum tube which is fried at one end and capped at the other, it was found just lying under the air filter assembly near the open rubber hose?
Please see pics below, any help is appriciated. thanks
Rob

First one is from the air pump diverter valve I think. It connects to the underside of the airbox.
The second one is a Co test port tube and ends in the exhaust manifold. You should cap that one.

Are you saying that the rubber hose goes to the airbox? there is only one connector fitting on the box and it connects to a different hose in the pic. As for the metal tube, i can't find the other part or it... is this the one you suggest should be blocked off? thanks

Yup, I have the same in my 80 model... a pipe runs from the air pump along the side of the engine and at the end you have the 90 degree bend going up to the airbox. Sit the airbox in position and you should see the connector at the bottom of it meeting the pipe coming up.

The hose actually connects to the underside of the top part of the air box, underside of the tube.
To find the other part of the test tube, follow it back from the exhaust manifold. Either there the other side is still sticking up from the manifold, or there is a hole on the top of the manifold. That should be capped unless you want to restore it to use for testing. I think people usually cap them because it is not used.

One other thing - I'd get fender covers - Roger sell 928 fitted sets, very good quality, for $99. It's better than scratching the paint.
