I am new to Rennlist and recently bought a '85 928 5spd. -I am really enjoying it, but the interior is in poor shape, with a lot of the uasual problems, such as dash, upper drivers seat, and warped rear quarter int. quarter panel covers, I have been searching for some replacement rear quarter panel covers on e-bay[I mostly need r/h side in navy blue] There was 2 nice ones for sale recently for a 87 s4 i black, which I could dye. Will these fit?, are the mount holes, speakers ect. in the same locations?.Also my air cond. is not operating and I charged with dye and found front cvompresser seal leaking, which I was able to purchase new along with gasket set, what type of puller do I need to remove a/c clutch, and should I convert to 134a?- thanks Lou
Not sure on the interior quarter panels - I recall pre-S4 cars are a slightly different shape inside the hatch area? Certainly on S4's there are several variations of rear quarter panel bsaed on MY/sound system, and whether the car has the 10 speaker pack option, and whether the speakers have round or square surrounds.
The AC issue is a common failure mode. Your best bet it to get a rebuilt compressor, replace all o-rings in the system, change over the expansion valve to a r134a one, flush the system out with mineral spirits, replace the receiver/dryer, and screw in r134a schrader valves. Then fill, and enjoy cool air.
You can rebuild the compressor yourself if you buy the gaskets, o-rings and seal, but you'll need a seal-installation tool, and it may leak anyway. The 6E171 compressor (which is what you have) is very well built and responds well to rebuild.

+1 on get a good rebuilt compressor, just buying the clutch if you need one is more than a good rebuilt often costs (about $200 on ebay).
I would stick with R12, these cars need every bit of AC they can muster, and 134 isn't as good.
I wouldn't dye the interior, just be patient until the correct color and parts you need become available, and as local as possible to keep shipping etc. down. Cars with nice interiors get wrecked all the time, so it shouldn't take long to find what you need if one of the big vendors doesn't have it in stock.
