Good news. New 20W50 oil & new filter seems to have everything back in order. Cut open the old filter & it was clean.

Still, this is getting to be a bit tough on the heart. After the amount of $$$ I've sunk into this thing in the past 3 years, including engine work equal to the value of a new motor, I think I'd have cried if it was the bearings.

Laird..........was going to suggest moving to 20W50. We dont run our cars in the winter so I dont worry about the lower number to much.

If you can get it try 15w50 Synthetic.............thats my preference in our semi-frigid world.

ps..........look out for a gathering in mid Sept my place

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this solution to low oil pressure at hot idle....the oil thermostat springs get old and fatigue...right above the pressure sender....once I changed the springs I never got a hot idle low pressure problem..

I do think the 10-40 oil is part of your problem...but canada isn't that hot either? Since it appears you solved the problem....just buy the springs + pressure sender seal and replace it at your next oil change...

Ueed Castrol 20W50. I was the only 20W50 available in our local stores. As mentioned before, cold climate means that heavy oil is not commonly stocked.

Glad things are back to normal.

I know my cars do not like anything less than 20W50 synthetic!
