This sounds like a fuel pump issue as once the pump shuts off the engine will run for a bit B4 it uses up all the pressurized fuel in the lines
It doesn't do this always unfortunately, sometimes it just shuts down instantly...
Also, the last time we checked, it was spark issue, not fuel delivery.

The problem is, the car was bought like that over 2 years ago.
And since the issue is very intermittent (It could run for a week w/o any issues and on the 8th day it won't even start), it wasn't noticed initially.
Behavior isn't always the same either: it can lose power and die within 10 secs, or just shut down instantly. It's just a perfect example of 928 electrical gremlin.

My '89 was doing some very similar crap. It turns out that after replacing/refurbishing/repairing a lot of the same stuff as you have done that it was the main engine ground. It was there and appeared fine, but I took it off and checked continuity which was fine. Took me 5 minutes. Cleaned the ends of the strap and the mounted bolt holes and reinstalled it and it has never quit since.

My impression is that it would run when it found a ground. The rest of the time it drove the computers crazy looking for a ground and would not run at all while they were searching everywhere for a ground.
YMMV

Is possible that the wires at the 14 pin connector are corroded? I found the #1 wire was completely rotted so I used some care and cut open the wire harness to where the insulation looked ok. Also the same is attached to the starter solenoid and was missing insulation there so I added more heatshrink there....voila it cranks right up.

My writeup on RW: http://reutterwerk.com/forums/showpo...4&postcount=36

EDIT: Local guys said you can also try to (*very carefully*) touch the #1 wire post to the hot post. Make sure engine is in neutral/Park as appropriate!! This bypasses the ignition switch.

We checked this earlier.
Some wires indeed were corroded, but we checked all harness from there and cleaned where it was bad.
Also, apologies for being unclear, the starter does engage.

Gonna check/clean main engine ground next, I guess. Should've done this earlier.
Thanks for all the input!

also clean the 2 fuel injector grounds where they attach to under the rear throttle cable wheel at the back of the engine. ( remove the air cleaner)
There you will find the ground wires

Supposedly we finally managed to figure this out.
Looks like it was the factory alarm system failing in a weird way! Will report later after replacing its brain.

EDIT: It was the faulty relay part nr. 928.637.16.000. Can be accessed by removing your stereo head unit.
