Default Clearing a lien in Calif when holder is gone?

OC CL has an S4 for $5k, seller says he can't register due to paid but not signed off lien to some company that no longer exists. Is it a parts car, or is there a legal way to clear the lien?

No connection to me, and its an AT, so no interest either from me.

1989 Porsche 928 S4 in great condition. I am selling this as a parts car due to problems with licensing. Runs and drives great with only 97,XXX miles on her and a crack free interior. $5,000 firm, no lowballers or tirekickers. Please note that there is an issue with an old lien that was paid off but will take an act of God to get removed as the company that placed the lien on the car is no longer around and the DMV won't renew the registeration untill its signed off. I've spent more then 3 grand on attorney fees thus far and my only option is to sell the car as parts.

That just happened to a friend of mine, tried to register a car and found out at the DMV there was an outstanding lean. The company that held the lean has been out of business for some time.

He did some research, found out one of the big financial institutions (might have been Citi Bank) bought the lean holder many years ago. A few phone calls to Citi, he received a lean release on the car.

I just wrote the owner asking for more pictures. Will post them when/if he sends them. It would be a shame to see this car broken for parts if it is as nice as the description.

Personally I think 5,000 is too much money for it with a title problem.

I also agree with this....... "if" its just a lien...thats one thing...but it could very easily be salvaged too
