Hi Everyone,
Keep loving my 1988 (new to me) 928 S4.
I think the Club Sport wheels are the best ever for the 928. My question is will the Club Sport wheels from an new 928, from 1989 and up, fit a 1988 S4 without modifications?
Thanks in advance,
Joe Taylor

Yes.
Be careful, there are a lot of flavors of CS wheels, from 944's, etc. Some are less expensive, some are more. Just be sure of what you're buying to make sure you're paying a market price.

Hi,
Just to be clear, wheels like this in the photo, is what I am talking about.
Just in case I have mistakenly called them "Club Sport" wheels.

Thanks Rob and Burtrand,
Does it matter about original, Porsche Cup 1 wheels or will aftermarket replicas work ok as well.
Just wondering about the wheel sizes Cup 1 wheels come in, will the wheel/tire combination fit in the wheel wells of the '88 S4 without rubbing?
They ARE hot looking wheels on the 928...
Thanks again,
Joe Taylor

The biggest stock Cup 1 rim is 9" wide with an offset of 55 mm. With 255's on them they'll fit no problemo. I have them on my GT with a 15 mm spacer on the rear and there's plenty of room (tho the '90's have factory rolled fenders that your '88 does not.
Many folks run the aftermarket (Mille Miglia?) Cup 1 replica wheels, I think they're fine, just a bit heavier (IIRC).

When I looked for new rims it was all about offset. I don't remember where I found the info, but do a search and look for the program that calculates rim size and offset to make sure they will fit.

Hi Rob,
Thanks, I was looking on the 928Registry and for the
1988 928 S4:
Wheels were 7x16 front and 8x16 rear flat disc with an offset of 65mm (front) and 52.3mm (rear) with 225/50 16 (front) and 245/45 16 (rear) tires
and the 1994 928 GTS:
Wheels were 7.5x17 front and 9x17 rear 17" "Cup" style wheels with an offset of 65mm (front) and 55mm (rear) with 225/45 17 (front) and 255/40 17 (rear) tires
How many different widths do the Cup 1 style wheels come in?
Thanks,
Joe Taylor

For the rear the Club Sport and '92-'93 Cup wheels work best with the bolt-on spacer (17mm?) that was stock with the CS wheels. In fact, I *think* the CS wheels need the spacer or it will rub (maybe.)
In either case the bolt-on spacer pushes the rear wheels out towards the arches and makes everything look better and perhaps helps handling.

Joe,
You will be the PERFECT candidate for my new DVD that will be released at OCIC July 31st...come buy one quickly when you get there and watch it on your computer or portable DVD player, then you can the the most knowledgeable person in the room...ok, maybe not, but it will help with questions like these anyway! LOL!
As everyone else is saying the Club Sport 928 Wheels were on the '88 CS cars in Europe and the '89 GT here in the states. They are the widest wheels fitted to a 928 8" front, 9" rears, they are light, strong and EXPENSIVE for real ones in good condition. The 944 Club Sport wheels are 7" and 8" I think, so you don't want those.
The ones in the picture you provide are bound to be expensive IF they are factory '92/'93 wheels as they would have the Tire Pressure Monitoring system in them! A nice set was available in Canada not to long back for $1500 (or maybe it was even more) so I passed on them...though I had been looking for a set. Those in your picture would be called Cup I wheels... The '94/'95 wheels are the Cup II wheel... As you already noted 7.5" front, and 9" rear...
Cup I's are some of my favs other than the MUCH more recent Carrera III light weights in 18" that you can probably get for $1200/set with tires if you look around!

Hi Guys,
Found a set of Cup 1 replica wheels for sale, they are used and in good condition, the wheels are 17"x7.5" offset 23mm, Rear: 17"x9" offset 15mm with 225/45/17 tires on the front and 245/40/17 tires on the rear.
The PO had taken them off a 911 and replacing the wheels/tires.
Do you think those will fit on my 1988 928 S4 if I have the right spacers? And if I need spacers, does anyone have recommendations about what size spacers are needed on the front and/or back wheels?
Thanks,
Joe Taylor

Hi Joe,
They won't fit, the offsets are way too low. Look for offsets in the 50-60 ish range.
The set I just took off my car were ET52 front with a 235/45 tyre and ET47 rear with a 275/40 tyre. The front offset was slightly lower than some are comfortable with fitting, and the back, you couldn't get your pinky between the tyre and fender!
