Flex plate time bomb?
#46
Bill,
Thanks - it was your directions that I followed - so yes, I pulled the flywheel back (towards the tranny) before clamping down.
The plate did go completely straight. No flex in the plate. It went back about 2 mm. Since I was lying on the floor doing this, I was just happy to get the bolts out, the cover off, and them all back together. Luck was with me as the clamp bolt was even in the correct position - no turning the motor.
Tomorrow it is going on a lift so that I can take the cover off again and check the torque on the clamp bolt. Just was not enough room for the torque wrench under the car - 66 lbf as mentioned on here. Plus check the back bolt.
Thanks for the part number - I will order. I take pride in keeping everything original (except for the RMB - love the V8 sound)
Thanks for the directions and your reply.
Best regards,
Glenn

FWIW, if you have any sort of RMS leak, don't bother with the foam piece 'till you fix it. Mine got oil soaked and sort of fell apart in less than 2000 SoCal miles.
