Ricerschnitzzle Goes on a Diet
I had some electrial issues the last couple weeks after the rebuild. I have been running with the stereo disconnected to help issolate the problems. I am so in love with the sound of the exhaust at this point, I decided to finally remove the stereo system and get ready for a cage. I knew I had a good bit of weight but not almost 300 pounds worth!
15" speaker was 65#, each 12 was 38#, 3/4" MDF box was 80#, 5 amps, 30F capacitor, distro blocks, wires etc were another 60#!! Almost like gaining 30 hp back. And my hearing...
Now to start cleaning out the inside for paint and roll bars. For now I plan on keeping the stock dash and door trims, plus front carpet. Going to finish the back first, then give up the last of my comforts... I'll be hitting the weight savings thread a lot I think.
Here's the Scnitzzle when she was still Maroon with the speaker box in the back.
Here's the amp rack holding the 3 larger amps, 4th is under neath it and 5th up top between the 12's. Again older pic when car was red. And yes I moved the harness up to the shock towers using Carl's brackets...
Here's the stuff sitting in the garage.
Time to grow up and move on.

I bet that system put out some Heavy sound. Diets are good. In this case for the car and the ears.

Rice... the thundering bass may have had the fuel start to atomize while it was still in the tank
Seriously, you do know you will be replacing a lot of the weight lost with that roll cage, right? It's a trade off, of sorts. You will also have some sort of stereo in there as well?
I can't wait to see your after pics!

I know the cage will add weight back in. Not sure how much, I guess it depends on how hardcore of a cage I decide on. Looking mostly at Auto X, with some PCA and SCCA events. Don't think I have the time or talent to go ITE like the big boys, but who knows? Might go with Carl's race roll bar as a base to add to?
I was thinking of keeping the 6.5" speakers in the doors for now. Honestly the car sounds like pure sex right now. It's also real loud. I had to have the stereo up so loud to compete I was numb after even a short trip.
