Todd seems like a good guy but he should definitely be brought back as a sponsor since he does advertise his cars here. If he isn't willing ot pony up the sponsorship money then he should not be permitted to make a peep about the cars he has for sale.

What's up with the poll numbers?
35 voters
532 total votes
262.86%
It does say 'Multiple Choice Poll'... with 35 voters, that would be 140 votes if every option was voted by every voter.
What gives?

Looks like you can vote without opening the thread to view. That might be waht allows the votong and reading numbers to be so skewed.
I enjoy(ed) reading Todd's posts about cars he was referring, brokering, representing or selling himself. He has a ton of enthusiasm. I guess the way he described cars was a little too polished, and didn't seem like the way many are critical of other cars that are listed. But that's not likely a factor in his departure.
I think the original problem was that cars he described for sale were not described as cars that HE had for sale. It bumped too hard against the sponsorship side. IIRC, he was given a couple probation periods, during which time his descriptions were adjusted to remove any references to his part in the deals. Whatever he did wasn't good enough.
Whatever folks think about freedom of speach and expression, operating a system the size of Rennlist costs a lot of money and time. John D's efforts started out as a rescue of a deteriorating system. It didn't take long for the needs and expenses to grow to the point where he needed donations and then sponsorship dollars to keep things running as he thought it should be run. IB has perhaps a more commercial model, but nonetheless needs to attract, support and maintain the interests of those sponsors. It hardly seems fair to charge some sponsors for their commercial exposure, yet allow another user to promote their for-profit activities without paying.
My guess is that if Todd approaches IB with a sponsorship proposal, they will be all ears. Rennlist is, after all, a business for them. Others (Nicole and Gio for example) have made sponsorhip work for them even though they are hardly doing megadollar deals as a result. Maybe Todd could work out a similar arrangement.

The hair I see to split is whether Todd was advertising to Rennlist members, or just bragging about the cool 928's he had for sale. Did he ever sell to a someone that was a Rennlist member at the time of sale, or did he convince them to join the forum after a sale?
Anyone that reads the threads can see Todd posting about a car on Rennlist could hardly be considered beneficial to him, many of the cars were shredded, and so was Todd. Towards the end I think he was only posting about cars he had no direct benefit from the sale of.
I agree with Sterling, I don't like the practice of flipping. After some thought I decided it shouldn't be a factor in how I treated Todd.

Any chance we can turn this back into a 928 technical forum?

If anyone on Rennlist actually purchased a car from Todd, I'd be surprised. Please speak up if you have. That would be interesting to know.
I’m fairly certain he hasn’t gained much financially from this group. In fact, I bet I’ve gained more financially since I haven’t been paying a mechanic to work on my car anymore. I’m not buying the whole financial argument for someone who sells 2 maybe 3 928s per year and who doesn’t turn a wrench himself. How much troubleshooting knowledge has he really gained from this forum? I'm sure it's a hell of a lot less than me.
I will agree some one his tactics and communication styles could be taken as offensive, but he is certainly not the only one around here with that going for them. I certainly don’t understand the disdain for someone selling used cars or flipping them if you will. What’s wrong with that? Looks like they usually turn into a win/win for both parties.
What I think he added to the forum (besides all the drama) was a line on many 928 for sale. He used to offer up leads and advice to those looking to score good deals that he wasn’t interested in pursuing. The guy spends countless hours almost daily trying to drum up 928’s. I honestly think he added more value than he recieved, but the manner in which it occured may not have been worth it.

Every body has their good days Sterling......
Glad you have strung several together!!!!!!
![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
This "bring em back" hogwash gets any deeper and we will need a set of rules.....
or I can just continue being an arbitrary and capricious a-hole!

I've searched some old messages, sorted ascending dates so they start back in 2002, and it doesn't seem like a great deal has changed in 7 years, except the knowledge base of answers to common 928 problems has grown, so that perhaps more technical questions are being answered by "FAQ" type threads without the users posting, and that may have shifted the technical question to noise balance.
If the answer to posted technical questions is use the search function, why be surprised at a rise in the percentage of noise posts?
Some forums seem happy with the practice of marking the subject of the message with [OT].
*** Initially I was thinking of including some links to old drama threads, but decided it would lead to more drama than illumination. Old threads are a great place to mine for nuggets of information, but more than a few are just mine fields best not opened.

You dont have to be a member to view on this board and you don't ever even have to post.
Rennlist is, I believe, the largest forum to Porsche so for me to post cars for sale on here would give me a rather large audience and probably lots of exposure to sell.
I think you would be hard pressed to see a quality forum not have a set of rules for selling. Most don't allow you to post for sale anywhere BUT the for sale section. So if you are flipping cars 1 at a time, well you could initially see that maybe you are an addict, but after a while it is OBVIOUS you are flipping cars, or brokering which is COMPLETELY commercial.
almost every forum has sponsors and those that can do things like that. The sponsorship here is not that expensive monthly especially with the money you would make on the cars. Done correctly he could (or could have) work up to be a reputable commercial sponsor and draw lots of attention to his 'inventory' and make more sales.

Reminds me slightly of the great Alexander Graham Grebowski. Technohistory buffs will undoubtedly remeber him as the first Telephone Pole.

I see, so this is the type of technical topics you strive to encourage?
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...rb-thread.html
I do enjoy seeing how some like to play the drama lama or tech forum trump card when it fits their agenda. Why the double standard?
To me it appears to be a little hypocritical.
What gives here?
