Default Tight back there?

I walked into the FLAPS in search of a battery, current one being all but unchargeable. Guy says yes we have those and brings it out, then says something about how difficult it is to install. I said, nah it's easy, just under the rear hatch.

"Isn't it tight back there?"

Ummm...ahhh...ummm...(where do I go with that), "Nope plenty of room."

I woulda blown his mind if I told him a 911 has the battery in the front.

The first autocross I did I went through the tech inspection, and the guy didn't want to let me go because I didn't have a battery holddown. I told him that I'd close the cover, wedge the spare tire into the well to hold it in place, and put the plastic cover and carpet back, which he was actually ok with. After I went home I ordered up the doorstoppy-looking battery hold-down (928.611.209.02GRV)and its bolt, the infamous 900.067.147.02, for which I paid $15.13 alone.

When I went to put these in, I noticed that the battery hold down and its bolt were already there.

What's the point of this story? Well, perhaps that I'm a dumbass. But it appears that there is a high degree of confusion induced by 928 batteries.

I actually had a bit of a problem at my first NASA track day. The early cars do not use the doorstop looking clamp, just the lid. I showed them the lid, the padding on top of the battery keeping it from moving around and making contact with the lid and the four nuts holding the lid securely down onto the battery and box. They let it go but told me I should fix it in the future. I guess I'll just mount a half assed clamp setup in there to satisfy the tech inspection.
