Default 928 86.5 transmission oil, check?

Hi everyone

I have a 1986 928 Euro, I need to check the transmission oil level and looked at my porsche handbook for guidance, the book mentions there is a resevoir at the back of the transmission, It is quite clearly illistrated in the book,

I have looked under the car and cant seem to see it anywhere, I have looked from the back and from the sides and no luck, I am looking for the plastic resevoir for the levels.

Is my car different or what?

thanks for your help

5-speed or automatic transmission? If the latter, it may be caked in gunk. It's on the right side of the transmission near the rear. If it's a 5-speed, there's no external reservoir (which would be why you can't find it), you check the level by removing the fill plug just above the mid-line of the rear differential cover plate.

EDIT: An auto, from your other post.

This can be done without jacking up the car using a mirror. One picture to help you find where to look and another to identify what to look for. Hope this helps.

Just so you know, don't be looking for anything yellow... that's the back of my shop light. I use a shop light to lightup the area and a flash light pointed at the mirror to light up the reservoir.

I cleaned mine reservoir using PB blaster. That stuff cleans through crude quicker than brake cleaner.

I presume you know the car needs to be level, warmed up and runnig.
