Removing Rear Brake Line - '88 S4
Hey guys,
I'm having trouble removing the passenger side (US) rear brake line. I can't get a good purchase on the inboard flair nut on the hard line. I can just barely get the wrench on the nut, but I don't have the room to move it enough to get it going.
This is the union where I am having fits.
I cut the rubber line here so can get a long socket on the 19mm bolt on the soft line to counter hold it, but can't get to the flair nut.
I'm also having trouble getting pliers on the brake hose bracket that holds the line to the chassis mount, but I figure I'll be able to deal with that once I have the hard line free of the rubber hose.
It's really ticking me off.
Any tips on getting to this?
Thanks,
Ed

soak it in PB blaster then try by holding the line portion with a big set of vice grips and using a line wrench on the brake line.
If this fails I would suggest they you get a small pin torch and heat the cut line fitting, this may loosen things up, use wet rags around the area so the torch wont burn any paint and have a fire extinguisher handy

Thanks Merlin. I've soaked it in PB Blaster and overnight last night, will be going out there shortly for round 2.
Heat is a good idea, but the main issue is that I cannot get the flair wrench on the flair nut. Its on the inboard side on the hard line, and the access is very tight from all angles. The pic doesn't really show how tight it is. Perhaps I'll take another pic with the wrench in the area.
I'm wondering if I need to get physical with my flare nut wrench and bend it a bit. Not sure this will gain me anything though.
I'm wondering what I am doing wrong because in all of my days of 928 ownership I've never heard of anyone else having any issues with this.
I'd be glad to be shown that I am a complete knucklehead and have missed the obvious if anyone wants to enlighten me.

Got it. Removed the exhaust hanger next to the line and was then able to remove the flat u shaped line holder, then got flare nut wrenches on each side and finally broke it lose.
I should have double checked that exhaust strap hanger yesterday. I thought it was welded on so did not check to see if I could remove it.
