So...I am out tuning the rebound on my shocks
Was doing some on and off clover leaf ramps in my area adjusting the rebound to full soft and then full stiff to see if it made any difference in the push in steady state corner limits on the ramps. It didn't. Gonna check the front end alignment next. The outside front tire seems to be the one making all the noise and letting go first.
Anyway, had the front and rear rebound full firm, pull up to a stop sign headed for a spot to soften the rebound back up. It becomes one of those who is going next inching forward then stopping wars of politeness. I decided to just go and give it a little too much gas too soon and the tires squeal just a bit as a round the corner. With the front shocks full firm the rears spin really easily with almost any throttle increase. I didn't think much of it as the car didn't go sideways and I turned into the proper lane, shifted and lifted when we had achieved speed limit...until...those red a blue flashing lights lit up my rear view mirror.
When the officer walks up I say "Hi, how's it going?" He just says, "I suppose your throttle stuck or something." I answered, "Yeah, or something," and go on to explain I am adjusting my shock rebound and got them too firm. And that it made it way too easy to spin the tires, especially when turning a corner. He just looked at me. I said, "Really", producing my white Koni ****, "here's the adjusting **** thingy." His reply was, "License and proof of insurance please."
While getting my "papers" I told him I waited to dig my proof of insurance and license out because I didn't want him to think I was going for a gun while he was walking up behind the car. He didn't say anything just waited patiently. As I hand him my stuff he asked if I saw him at the corner. I said no, but did he see that politeness who goes first thing. I said I felt like I got caught sitting at a green light and just kinda gave it a little too much gas for my shock settings. He turned to walk back to his car. I thought, "crap, I just got a freaking ticket."
After taking one full step he turned and asked when I was planning to adjust my shocks. I told him I was headed for the pizza joint around the corner. I knew the ower and was planning get a coke and adjust them there, then head home. But, that I would be happy to adjust them right now if he wanted me to. He said no, the parking lot I had pulled into was private property. I replied that I really wanted to get them adjusted right because that tire spinning stuff costs a lot in tires. He said it costs more than that because a reckless driving ticket is $400 bucks. I said, "Ouch!"
He then handed me back my papers and told me to drive safe, AND that my insurance verification was going to expire at the end of this month. I said thank you sir and patiently waited for him to leave the parking lot before I headed over to the pizza shop to get a coke and soften up the rebound.
At the pizza shop I told the owner what had just happened, he laughed and gave me a free coke. He came out with me and we talked as I gave the Koni's a precision measured twist softer. While doing the adjustment the police car drove by. On my way home a few blocks from the pizza joint the policeman had another car pulled over and waved at me as I went by. Think he was checking out my story?
I wonder if I would have gotten pulled over in the first place with a muffler instead of the RMB. The GTS does get kinda loud when she revs up as we take a corner waiting to shift until we're pointed straight again.

Better than my day yesterday when I got to visit with an officer...
I didn't do anything wrong, but the 17 year old girl who hit me in my '92 GTS did... SUCK! Gonna need a lot of paint, but not much body work thankfully! No one was injured either and her car fared much better than mine did. Lucky her.
Hoping to have it done before OCIC! Jim and I are in the same boat...a side swipe in both cases.
RKD, glad you got away free this time! Watch out for the law man!

RKD I am certain he was checking your story but its cool that he let you go. The whole wreckless driving thing is always in the back of my head when I nail the throttle these days, can't have any fun anymore.
James sorry to hear about the accident. Hope everything comes back together as new before OCIC.
Police officers are like any other profession, some use reason and are polite while others take things too far and prefer to be jerks. I'm sure we have all experienced both and I know I truly appreciate the good ones who go out of their way to protect and serve.

The jury is still out on these new supposedly super sticky street tires, the Dunlop Direnza Sport Z1 Super Stars. In straight line acceleration they are absolutely the stickiest. With any softness at all in the front rebound I can do just about anything with the throttle and clutch and they just stick and go. Getting the fronts to stick in a turn is becoming a real challenge. Right now I'm thinking they must be really sensitive to alignment.

Thanks guys, didn't mean to hijack your thread Richard! Looking forward to your full report when you are happy with your cars handling again and what was done to make it perfect again! Taking the car up to the place where the local P-car dealer has all their warranty work done, if anyone can do that car right it is them!

Not "bad"? When he almost gave a reckless driving ticket for chirping tires around a corner from a stop sign? Come on now... I actually got one of those taking a corner in my 968 a decade ago going 30mph in a 30mph zone; tires didn't make even a squeek. Of course it was dismissed in court, judge just shook his head because he couldn't understand it. What a stupid waste of time.

In 12 years of Porsche ownership, various models, I've been pulled over 16 times now. I've only gotten one ticket. It was for 5 over in a 35, It was in a 944 Turbo with a huge 4 inch exhaust and FlowMaster muffler that made a rip roaring 126 db at 10 ft reving in neutral. The officer said he didn't care about the loud exhaust, but did hear me 3 blocks away to chase me down and give me the 5 over ticket. Hence the comment above about going just a little stealthier than the RMB.

The interesting part is that during that time I drove a BoxsterS for 3 1/2 years, drove faster than the speed limit in it all the time, and never got pulled over once.
Just to add to my personal RMB fire, I always thought the boxster was too quiet but never thought it was worth the then $2500 to make it louder without losing and power ie, Porsches sport exhaust for the BoxsterS.
