Beautiful car and color combination! LOVE IT! Great year too! Put a Rear Muffler By-pass (RMB) on that bad boy and you will never want to turn the thing off... The big problem is you will want to hear it sing to you REGULARLY and that could be hard on your license! They are YUMMY CARS!

I was going to say the same thing about the vibration... Torque Tube maybe...

Get the flex plate checked and relieved if needed, then put a Super Clamp on.

I agree, the vibration may be the tires if they are old. Dump them AND the "manhole cover" S4 wheels. Get some 17" or 18" wheels and new tires.

On the tire front I am LOVING my Kuhmo Ecsta XS's right now! They have several hundred miles on them at this point and they are quiet, pretty, and have AWESOME grip in the dry! Not to expensive either. Mine are 17" 235's and 275's and I think they were $170 ea for the big size and $140 ea for the smaller size...not cheap, but certainly not Michelin or Prelli priced either!

Tires and Wheels: Anyone who wants to dummy up some new tires for me and club wheels, please. I wait for you with open arms, a six pack and a big smile.

Flat spots: I have had tires with flat spots, where the vibration increases with the speed of the car. IE the faster you go the more vibration. Or a vibration that changes as you turn the wheel. It might be that, but its not like any flat spot I have felt before. (Neither is the 928!)

Drivetrain: I did have a bad motor mount in an Acura RL once (in 2002), drove the car from JAX to N.O. with that. I know how that feels when the engine tips due to torque. But I was told the engine has new motor mounts. Verify: I have the receipts and will check them to see when and if that was done.

My Guess: The vibration is more like the motor mount problem I experianced with the Acura, thats why I thought it might be the drivetrain - causing the "washer machine" effect. IE when I would go above 3,000 RPM it seemed to happen.

Flex Plate: I forgot to get the flex plate checked in ATL before I left, but I will do that now that I am in JAX.

Joe, welcome and congratulations. Suggest new wheels as soon as the vibration is fixed.
Change all fluids and get new gas lines on engine (kit is available).
I got mine 4 years ago with 38K miles and have been smiling ever since

look under the front of the car and compare the lower portion of the oil pan to the crossmember if the pan and Xmamber are flush the mounts are good if the pans hanging lower than the mounts might need to be replaced.
Even though the PO replaced them , if they were the factory mounts then they could have already failed.
Best to get a set of solid mount2 for 25.00 each instead of the 350.00 each from Porsche

Hi Everyone,

The car is silver with a light gray seats and black interior.

I went through the service receipts last night, here is what I found:

Previous owner bought the 928 in 2002 with 71k miles, it now it has 75k miles - so 4k miles in 7 years.

Service records since 2002 show:

4/2002 - Replaced fuel filter, added freon and oil

8/2002 - New oil pan gasket/baffle, engine mounts, steering rack bushings, tranny filter, battery and oil

10/2002 - New tranny fluid reservior

1/2003 - New tires - all around, Bridgstone Potenza's

3/2004 - New rotor, dist. cap, plugs and oil change

8/2005 - New Schrader valves and freon

9/2005 - New battery

10/2005 - Custom relay installed to cut power to ECU/etc. when ignition is off (stop battery drain)

9/2006 - New air massflow meter

10/2007 - New ignition cables, knock sensor, intake manifold gasket, coolant expansion tank, Schrader valves and freon

3/2008 - Power steering fluid

3/2009 - Odometer repair and reinstall and adjustments to automatic transmission

The work I had done on the car in Atlanta before driving from Atlanta to Jacksonville

6/2009 - New timing belt, camshaft sensor, water pump, seals and rollers, tensioner, left rear axle CV joint and boot. (boot had a tear in it, found during PPI)

Things that I need to look into and/or replace:

1) Needs a new oil pressure sender, current one is sporatic
2) Gas gauge sender - current one makes needle bounce up and down when tank is below 1/4 tank.
3) Vibration at speed ~90+ mph and sometimes on hard acceleration

So it looks like the car was hardly used during the previous owners 7 years.

I would be interested to hear what you guys (and gals) think about the work done by the previous owner and what the heck is a "Schrader valve", is it something to do with the A/C ?

Joe, the Schrader Valve on a a/s system is the same thing as is in a tire stem, the little thing you push on and air comes out, a one way check valve.
