Talking 18 inch tire pressure recommendations

Putting on my new 18 inch Cayman S style rims in two days. Anyone have any tire pressure recommendations? The tires are toyo r1rs. 225/40zr18 fronts and 265/35zr18 rears on a 86.5S

It is hard to make a recommendation like this. The pressure not only depends on size, but also the ratio of wheel width to tire width and also profile. It also depends on tire brand. For example, on my old 18x8.5" wheels with 235/40-18 tires I had to run 28 psi cold in order for the tires to wear evenly. With my new 18x8" wheels with 245/40-18 I find that 32 - 34psi is optimal for this combination. You would do best to start at around 32psi and experiment to find the best values that work for you.

search on the mail lists (contact patch, tire patch) haha. You'll get lots. Look for Ed Ruiz.

this one is right up there with all the consensus of "shifting at peak torque"

yeah i was thinking about starting between 32 and 36 psi. i heard that a wider lower profile tire will require less pressure than the stock 40 some psi you put in the rear.

Hi

Yes I know, I started on 32 but using my temp probe to see temperatures ACROSS the whole tread, I eventually dropped to 28....dont forget , with my Nitrous I prefer grip to longevity...I get around 2 to 3 months from a set..usually 3 months ish on fronts and 2 months ish on rears.... lol

All the best Brett

Hi

Yes it is a little expensive lol....

I pay around £80 per front and £150 per rear....

Uk tyres are much more pricey than US ones...

It adds up to around $760 per set

All the best Brett

I run 36psi all around...the tires wear "even"....well except the rears wear quite a bit faster!
