Before going any further on this 928 quest, I need to determine whether an S4 will fit into my single-car garage!

Here are the measurements:

928 S4 measurements from Porsche 928, The Essential Buyer's Guide.
Length: 177.95 "
Width: 72.28"

Garage dimensions:

Door opening: 94.25". Clearance: 22" or 11" per side. Should be OK.

Interior garage width: 115.75". Clearance: 43.47" or 22" per side. Car should be able to very slightly angled (see length below) toward passenger side, so this might be OK for opening driver's door and exiting--but not sure.

Garage length from front of a small freezer (that ain't going anywhere...) to the garage door tracks: 185". Clearance (gulp): 7" or 3.5" per end. This is a little scary.

Hate to bail on 928 ownership because of something like this, but this car isn't going to be parked on the street!

I've had 951's/S2's and a Boxster S in there previously, but the 928 is a tad bigger. The current 924S and/or MBZ C230 K fit in now without any problem with the freezer and even a treadmill off to the side, but the 928 looks really tight. Of course this means that no work is going to get done on this car in this garage either.

If anyone local (L.A.) feels like driving up our hill just east of downtown for a test fit, let me know! And tell me what kind of beer you drink

I suggest you buy one - and if it doesn't fit, just send it to me. I'll do the same for you if I get to the point they don't fit in my little garage

Move the freezer to hang on the wall, this will free up your floor space. You may have to build a shelf, with side supports . You didnt say how big the freezer is though
There are tire stoppers that are sold in the airplane magazines the front tires are driven onto the units then the weight of the tire keeps it from moving then the block portion stops the tire from rolling

Bottom line. If you want it bad enough! you'll find a way to make it fit. Tossing out crap, etc. Get the car.
Have some fun, make new friends. Thats what this hobby is all about. You got to live a little; cause life is to frigging short!

my 81 fits in my 1 car garage. In fact I have enough room to actually work on it too.

The doors on a 928 are pretty long and the seat is more forward than in the 924 (relative to the door opening) so you have to open the door farther to get out. You may find it easiest to let your passenger out before pulling in the garage an keep the car to the right so you can get out easily after parking.

Don't let this dissuade you.

I had no problems fitting my 928 in my old one car garage.....with plenty of junk piled in there too!

The C230 is slightly longer than a 928 at 178.4" but a tad narrower at 68"...so if the C230 fits...I think the 928 will too

Hang a tennis ball on a piece of ribbon a few inches from the freezer. When the car jiggles the tennis ball, you'll see the ribbon move and know to stop. We also took the precaution of setting the safety eyes for the door opener right at bumper height so the door won't close until the door will clear. K likes to back her car in, so she goes just far enough for the little safety eye light to show OK and knows she's in. Backing in, she can see it from the driver's seat easily. At her old house, I rigged the tennis ball on a string to the garage door, so when the door was closed it pulled the tennis ball up and clear from the car. Little bit of extra cord and a couple eye screws did the trick. Lots of options available.

He's joking-- unless you are still wearing the same size pants you wore in high school. The sunroof is only good for (1) waving, (2) dropping in pizza's, and (3) sticking legs through.

Stephen, the width will be fine, we've stored ours in a 10'-wide storage space (about 115" between the inside walls) and it was no problem at all-- just park towards one side to give the driver's side more room.
