Default INSUFFICIENT LOW OIL PRESURE WARNING

Hello members i needed a chime in on the situation. The warning light came on last week with low oil presure in dash light and i have had a new pressure sending replaced two months ago.Now the light stays on at stop light idle, but when moving no light warning.I have new oil changed 2 days ago 15-50 mobil one synthetic and at idle over 5bar then settle to about 2.5.Is it a bad sending unit or spring in the unit?my magnetic oil plug i found a little shaving and one tiny pencil tip metal particle????? cap bearings 2 and 6 wearing?Besides the low pressure warning light car idle and runs fine-smooth and i have on idea....

If the low pressure warning light is on while you are showing 2.5 bar oil pressure at idle, sounds like a faulty warning light sensor.

Why was the first sensor replaced? "New" does not necessarily equal "good"...

Send Greg Brown a PM, and then send Greg Brown your car on a tow truck, do not drive your car.

Metal in the oil does not = good either.

You also may have a faulty connection and the power connector near the front pax power bus. Check this thread out.

a quick test is to pull the dipstick and drip some of the oil onto a black piece of cardboard go into the sun and look for metallic particles.
If you see any then it would be wise to open the oil filter and check for more debris by cutting open the filter and rinsing the filter media with some brake cleaner into a pan.
If you find metal then dont run the car as you will cause more damage

Default LOW PRESSURE

Thanks i have to open the filter but with what ?if you cut the filter its made of metal too-that could be confused with metal from the engine itself.Could the spring from the sender input had gone weak?

I've kinda wondered how you do that too. My first choice was going to be a cutting wheel on my Dremmel, but then thought about maybe punching a hole and then using tin-snips to avoid the metal shavings...

You can buy a tool - kind of like a big pipe cutter - you roll it around the base of the filter - just like you would for a pipe cutter 2-3 times around & the whole can cover comes cleanly off the base - no swarf, no major element damage...

Default low pressure

Alright i took apart the 14 pin terminal by the front engine jump post.I cleaned it and examined each pin male and female-no breakage anywhere.Car idle fine and when i drive it does not trigger the warning light except when driving and comes to a stop...could it be new defective sensor?i have no idea....the 928german car makes you think like a jeopardy question?

By your own admission you found metal in the oil, and you say the low oil pressure light comes on with the engine running, and yet you are still driving it.

Good luck.

Default LOW PRESSURE

Post number 6-replied i have not cut open yet?some part of me do not wanted to.I think if you see some metal already it could be from the past and i have not look at the oil plug in many changed.I think the if you see metal shaving its too late .I will have rebuilt at a later time and my culprit right with the warning light search narrow down the many post here on the forum-is the oil temp thermostat and spring kit from DR.I ordered already and will have porsche installed them.In the mean time the car idle and runs smooth......-can we say kamikaze........

You really should get that oil filter open and check for metal. You could be in time to save the engine as it is likely the notorious 2-6 rod bearings.

Once those rod bearings are gone, a rod will break next and then there is NO rebuilding it then.

These guys would not be telling you to open the oil filter up if they weren't suspicious of rod bearing failure.
