Default 1982 Fender Removal

I got the fender off and thought I would take a break and post the progress here. I bought this car with a dented fender and have been taking care of all the maintenance. It is a good runner and now she will look as good as she runs.

Other then a good cleaning is there other stuff I should be or could be doing while I have the fender off. Doesn't seem like I opened a huge door to do stuff here but thought I would ask. Thanks.

Also I don't plan to replace to bumper cover will it naturally conform back to the new fender or is there something else I need to do to help it line back up. It's a good hot day here and I have a heat gun if any of that plays to my advantage.

I will have to remove my right front fender soon to replace my engine harness... Anything to watch when removing it? Hidden bolt?

Haven't found any DIY replacement of harness thread so far...

Well your HVAC external temp sensor should be mounted in the alternator shroud air supply hose which is missing... looks like you may have the sensor dangling there (can't tell for sure) you'll need the hose, the "UU" shaped bracket that holds it to the splash shield and the sensor & wiring.

I think it is pretty straight forward 8mm and 10mm bolts. The 8mm bolts in the front by the headlight are the worse in my opinion. Have a real long extension for the bolts on the fire wall. I think people make it seem worse then it is, so don't be discouraged. I have some more pictures of the process if you would like to see them. It was also about 100 degress in my garage so that seemed to help me stay motivated

Oh and don't miss the little 8mm bolts hidden inside the lip that holds the S spoiler on. Good Luck to ya

I guess I have some extra time to get the toothbrush out and go to town. It will make me want to do the other side also, best I can without taking the fender off for now. Summer is too short round here for that, will have to be a winter project.

So I went to pick up my fender that was supposed to have been done 2 weeks ago and it hadn't been touched

The owner of the shop "recommended by a good friend" died.

So no one is working there anymore, I guess alot can happen in a month. Lucky for me the former manager the guy I droped off the fender to was there picking up his tools and gave me my fender.

Back to finding a new painter.

I think most of the pictures clue you in to the order of things and where some tricky bolts are. With a good extension you can get it done. Good luck with it, and if you get stuck let me know I will try to help.

I did the harness replacement last year and it was totally plug and play for me. I was doing TB/WP, Porkensioner, motor mounts, oil pan gasket, alternator replacement, etc so that made everything more accessible. No apparent reason to remove a fender.

Well... I heard the socket of the harness begin under the right fender. (1979)
